The AR-15

A worthy goal for AR15 shooters

In 2011 Carl Bernosky tied the National record for offhand shooting at the National Matches.
--The rifle was an AR15 based match rifle.
--Metallic (iron sights).
--Position was offhand/standing with no support.
--Range = 200 yards.
--Target = SR. The 10-ring is 7" diameter. The X-ring is 3" dia.
--His score was 200-15x. Out of 20 shots fired, 15 hit the X-ring, the other 5 were in the 10-ring.

Not too shabby for standing on his hind legs and using iron sights.

This is a photo of the actual target:

Here's the one that gets used and gets dirty. It's pretty simple really, just some iron sights and a light. A couple of spare batteries fit inside the pistol grip.

To be fair, the rifle he used is about as far from an M16/AR15 as it gets.

Incredible shooting no less, the amount of focus it takes to shoot that well off hand is eye tingling and mind numbing, I haven't cleaned the off hand yet... Come close though.

I am a HUGE fan of the AR platform. It is accurate, lightweight, versatile, durable, and reliable(if run well lubricated)
Here are some of mine

Bernosky's rifle is an AR-15 in one of the 6mm calibers. Bernosky is a marksman, and I suspect the type of rifle and caliber makes little difference to him in offhand.

I made that post as a contrast to the AR-15 squirt guns and shooters whose objective seems to be turning the maximum amount of ammunition into noise and smoke in the minimum amount of time.....without hitting anything ;-)

Touché, and I'm Positive that he would hit with anything you put in his hands.

I'm assuming you're not new to the HP scene, I started shooting in 2008 with MCRD SD.

HP setups are just too wacky. The weighted lead in the rear for balance was a real- I dunno, just oddball for me.

Just poking a little fun at the tacticool crowd.

I started HP in the 80's with a DCM Garand. Eventually upgraded to an M1A. I never could get comfortable with an AR-15 so I stayed with the M1A. I have to admit with 77 and 80 gr bullets, the AR-15 can shoot with the .30 calibers out to 600 yards. In the rapid fire stages the non-existent recoil is a major advantage over the .30 calibers.

I'm pretty much done with the "across the course" stuff and am easing into mid and long range prone. Bought a Winchester Model 70 match rifle in .30/06 for that. Yup - I'm a dinosaur.

I finally succumbed to the draw of an AR. Just before Newtown, I picked up a Colt 6920PD and did a little accessorizing with an Aimpoint Pro, Surefire, BCM and Spikes. Right after this I had a bad accident and didn't shoot for a year, I'm back to it now.

Not an ar but I wouldn't trade it for anything

This is a mini 14 that I built up over about a year. It's wearing a troy MCS stock, a mako recoil reduction stock, a custom muzzle brake from accuracy systems, all new springs, and a mo-rod Barrel stabilizer. Then a rattle can camo paint job. It's running a sightmark tactical red dot, with troy back up iron sights, a mag-pul foregrip, Harris bipod and a hogue grip. And I made up a Plano gun guard case to keep it out of sight.

I'm trying to conjure why anyone needs a muzzle brake and/or recoil reducing stock on a gas operated, semiautomatic, .223 caliber rifle....
