"I'm driving around the world to save the blue-footed ferret, donate to my cause."
"I'm driving around the world to save my sanity, I'm exploiting this cute animal by asking for donations, whatever is left after my hefty expenses, I'll donate to the cause."
Adventure Journal just hit the needle on the head with this one, they've just re-published the story Adventure Without a Cause: Calling BS on 'Charity Expeditions' written by Will Gadd. The article confronts something we've all become a bit too immune to - people using charity as an excuse to take a trip. If you want to get out and have an adventure, do it for yourself, because unless you're doing something insane, unique or wild, it's likely not going to benefit your cause enough to justify the time. Enjoy your travels and after you've checked out Adventure Journal's article and you're still curious about expedition sponsorship - check out Scott Brady's article on the subject here.
