A small charity that has managed to have a disproportionate impact on the North American camping and RVing community is Charlie Curry’s “Tents for Troops” (T4T).

This tiny Castle Rock, Washington-based non-profit advocacy group has managed to establish a nationwide network of over 200 RV parks and campgrounds that provide free camping for active military and their families (including reserves). The free camping initiative, which was spearheaded by Curry as a way of saying "Thank You" for the sacrifices borne by military families, is now in its second year.

T4T got a huge boost in May 2012 when – as a result of lobbying by T4T and other groups - the Obama administration announced that active duty service men and women – Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, activated National Guard and Reserves – can obtain the new military version of the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands Annual Pass. Now active members of the U.S. military can combine a free visit to a National Park with a complimentary overnight stay at a T4T campground. How awesome is that!

The best way to help promote the growth of Tents for Troops and its network of nationwide campgrounds is by word-of-mouth so whether you’re a full timer RVer, a snowbird, an overland adventurer or a weekend warrior you can help spread the T4T message at resorts and campgrounds across America. You can also show your support for Tents for Troops by taking a moment to “like” their T4T Facebook page.
