A group of intrepid and experienced explorers is about to set off on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that aims to recreate Sir Ernest Shackleton’s boat voyage from Elephant Island to South Georgia, to be followed by the difficult crossing of its mountainous interior. The expedition was proposed to renowned British/Australian adventurer Tim Jarvis by Alexandra Shackleton, granddaughter of Sir Shackleton.
The original expedition, which you can read more about in detail here, has become one of the greatest expedition leadership stories of all time, and the crew of Shackleton Epic aims to be the first group to authentically recreate the adventure this January.
The expedition will be outfitted in entirely period correct gear with minimal concessions being given to on-board radios, and a support vessel, the TS Pelican which will called upon only in the event that the Alexandra Shackleton gets itself into a situation it cannot get itself out of.
The expedition will leave Elephant Island on, or around, the 17th of January 2013.
