La Aduana: Land Rover Defender 110 Camel Trophy

E-mail Print PDF

It's not every day that you log onto eBay aimlessly searching for what could be your next vehicle and bam! a genuine Camel Trophy Defender shows up in your search. So here's my deal, the vehicles used in the competition, weren't exactly snuggled up in bed with warm sheets every night and babied. Luckily, this particular Defender was used as a Doctors vehicle - which means it got all of the cool history and kit that the competition vehicles had - but likely wasn't beat up so hard. It's even been mechanically refurbished, and appears to be in quite good shape. Just a note, if you buy it - dibs on the six extra Michelin XCL tires as a finders fee...

You can find it here on eBay Motors! [link]

Here's what the seller had to say about the vehicle:

You are looking at an original 1991 factory built Camel Trophy Land Rover Defender 110 . It was used as the Doctors vehicle in the Tanzania - Burundi Camel Trophy event of 1991 ,It has had all the mechanics either replaced brand new or Rebuilt .

The 200TDI engine was rebuilt using a brand New engine short block ,the cylinder head was rebuilt as was the turbo charger + fuel injection pump + injectors ,The fuel pump was new + so were the alternator / water pump / intercooler + hoses / radiator / the clutch /all coolant hoses , etc . The front axle + swivel hubs + brake calipers + steering box were rebuilt , all the tie rod & track rod ends were also replaced new , the transfer case was rebuilt ( it leaked ), we fitted all stainless steel braided brake hoses , the rear axle was replaced with a brand new unit with disc brakes , we also fitted an Equipe gas tank guard , the vehicle has been driven 8,500 miles mostly off road since the rebuild . The body was taken apart & repainted & all decals were replaced , the interior is TOTALLY ORIGINAL except for a Lowrance navigation unit , it has six brand new B.F. Goodrich KM2 mud terrain tires + six Michelin XCL tires that are almost new , it has a Haniball roof tent + quite a bit of memorabilia that comes with the vehicle . This vehicle is part of motoring history & built for mostly off road events , this is not a vehicle for daily freeway driving .
