I'll let you in on a little secret, after participating in Expeditions 7 - my traditionally Land Rover biased self has started to look a little bit more seriously at the Land Cruiser lineup. Where does one go to learn about Land Cruisers? Why no where else than IH8MUD - searching their classifieds section I came across this nicely modified 1997 40th Aniversary Land Cruiser. You can check it out on IH8MUD [link] or on eBay Motors. [link]
Here's what the seller has to say about the FZJ 80:
1997 40th Anniversary FZJ80 Land Cruiser. I have owned 38 different Land Cruisers and this one is by far the nicest, straightest, best running, best driving one I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I searched high and low for a 40th Anniversary in this condition, with the relatively low miles, and with factory front and rear differential locks.
I have maintained the vehicle myself, in my garage, on my lift for the past 4 years I have owned it. I have never driven it in winter here in Wisconsin and it shows. I bought it from a dealer in Indiana and they said it came from Florida.
I built it the way I wanted it to use off road, but, as we all know, things in life change. I won't get the chance to use it off road and need to sell it. I have added the following things to it:
-Slee Off-Road Short Bus front Bumper
-Warn 9.5 XP winch
-Slee Off-Road 4 inch lift
-Slee Center Diff Lock switch
-Pin 7 Mod as described on Sleeoffroad.com
All of the installs were performed by me so I knew they were done right.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with this vehicle except the check engine light is on for the same reason everyone elses is on, the PO401 code. I tried a few things but haven't gone too deep. The vehicle runs fine, just has a light on for that code.
