SEMA 2012: The Toyota HiLux Arrives

E-mail Print PDF

Here's a purely un-deniable fact filled with truthiness: No one wins by withholding the Toyota HiLux from North America. In the rest of the world, those looking for a durable, economical, and reliable mid-sized pick-up often default to the HiLux. Just part of the reason why Toyota has sold more than 14 million units of the HiLux in 135 countries worldwide, but since the late 80's not one of them has been sold in North America.

There's many people who suffer from the HiLux being withheld from North America, but for once put aside your selfish needs and think about the automotive aftermarket industry which contributes millions upon millions to our respective economies. Luckily SEMA has received a grant and has been working with the U.S. Government's Department of Commerce Market Development Cooperator Program—which allowed them to bring a few HiLux models to U.S. shores. This allows SEMA members to take measurements and specifications that would allow them to test fit products and allow them to become competitive in the worldwide HiLux aftermarket.

Unfortunately we won't be seeing the HiLux any time soon in North America, but it's still great to see them in North America.
