BMW Releases New 2013 BMW R1200GS

E-mail Print PDF

Over the last few years we've all been waiting in anticipation to see what the next re-incarnation of BMW's flagship GS model would be. We heard rumors ranging from BMW installing a larger-displacement boxer engine, to watercooling their iconic design, all the way to removing the engine in favor of an in-line 4-cylinder engine. BMW just released the details on the new model, which retains the 1200cc boxer engine that we've come to love and arguably improves it with the addition of watercooling—though we'll take a bet that boxer purists won't agree with that. Regardless, the new model gains 14 horsepower, putting the total at an impressive 125 horsepower. The bike, just launched at the INTERMOT show in Cologne, Germany also features a brand new LED headlight as well as being outfitted with selectable ABS and Dynamic ESA.

The motorcycle will be available with three different option levels: Touring, Dynamic, and Off-Road—there's sitll no word if there will be an "Adventure" model released soon, or if the Off-Road option will cover it.
