Great write-ups and pictures

Since I didn't get to take any pics myself (Mo had the camera with her in Utah) I have to depend on others for memories. I can say that this was the best OX that I have been to. Not only due to the larger list of activities and vendors, but this is the first year that I camped at the event itself. I always thought that I would be more comfortable camping elsewhere. Spending my time at the OX was a lot more fun and I got to see so many more people. The camp area is as enjoyable as the vendor section and not to be missed.

This was my wife's and my first trip to the expo. We were very excited to go. We had a great time. Met some wonderful people. Saw some great demos. Next year, we will be back and bringing a few friends. We will do the full experience next year.

Another great event, I'm starting to wonder which is more fun the trip getting to EXPo or the event it self.
NMBR (New Mexico Back Roads) led a group across NM & AZ to the EXPO, three nights camping enroute to the event with the majority of the trip on dirt roads.

Curious as to this trailer. Anyone know anything about it?

IMG_9484-M.jpg

Yeah. It was a custom trailer. It and the D90 fit in the RV's trailer in the above pic. Really nice. I can't even begin to explain how much it probably cost.

By Land Or By Sea

I am new to Over landing with a vehicle But have fantasized about it for 8 plus years. I have Oversea'd it Serving in the Navy around the globe I am very familiar with traveling abroad which first started out in my Cycle Touring extravaganza's From Australia to a trip from Bangkok, Thailand across Cambodia To Ho Chi Minh , Vietnam, From Bologna , Italy down to Elba Island.

Now that my days on Active Duty as A Navy Diver are coming to a close I started to build up my truck with the help of the good old Craigslist and Some Carli Suspension Products. My plan was go with a good short bed pop up camper but I found a Used Callen Camper for 200 bucks and thats what I ended up with. With a previous Cycle Touring trip around Alaska in the works I have now Switched Gears. After my trip to the Overland Expo meeting awesome people and seeing awesome rigs and there stories, I hope to have one for next year.

Starting hopefully this July I will be on my way with Truck, Bikes, Boat, climbing and some Scuba gear from Southern California to the great state of Alaska.Once there I will Cycle my big loop clockwise Anchorage to Fairbanks to Anchorage. From there I will travel eastwardly towards Syracuse, New York and Back again to Southern California. I will be sure to start up a build and trip thread to share my adventure. Here are a few Pics from my Overland Expo road trip. Imagine Trying to tow that Tank without a Cummins!

Christian,

Are these sessions recorded and available to view after the fact?

-Dan

Dan,

The "Fly and Try; Fly and Buy" presentation, along with all the presentations that Steph and I presented this year and past years, are available as PDFs on our web site: http://hackneystravel.com

Presenting "Fly and Try; Fly and Buy" with Christian was such a blast. I'd present a slide or two and then toss it over to him for another amazing anecdote of doing just that. Tons of fun.

I wish I had more to post but this year was like the last five at OvEx for us: present, try to walk more than three meters without stopping for a chat with an old or new friend, eat, present, wine with old and new friends, sleep, repeat.

We once again did not see a single film, drive a single Land Rover or pick up a bike after another immortal get-off.

Nonetheless, we again had an incredible time and are eternally grateful to Roseann, Graham & Jonathan for the opportunity to give back to the overlanding community.

I grabbed a few shots while walking around, but did not make it out to the campground this year -- where all the best stuff is always to be found.

As noted above, all of our presentations from this year and past years are on our site as PDFs: http://hackneystravel.com (If you're looking for all the "how-to" pages, waypoints, white papers, etc., they are here: http://www.hackneys.com/travel/)

Discussing how you can give back via photography at the "Do Good As You Go" yurt. The non-profit's co-founder, Alice Gugelev, is to my left. The photos on display were all taken by orphans, homeless, street kids and kids livng in deep poverty who participated in the "Do Good As You Go" photography programs around the world. One of my favorites from the show this year. A Four Wheel brand platform camper designed for the World-Vehicle Toyota HiLux/Tacoma chassis. You could ship the platform & camper in a 20' container anywhere in the world and bolt it onto a local market HiLux. It's the ultimate "Fly & Buy" hybrid. Overland Expo, Mormon Lake, AZ, USA
