Quick Shelves for Camp Kitchen

These shelves set up in less than three minutes and hang from the channel in the back of my Sunseeker canopy. They provide some nice extra horizontal surfaces under the canopy.

Looks good.

Rubbermaid makes the supports that clip over top of the shelving to prevent it from flipping side to side or forward. Might be worth getting them?

Thanks - are the "speed clips" part of the bracket support? Or a separate item? I couldn't tell from the photos. My brackets are the ones that came with the wire shelves. The shelves snap into the brackets very tightly - it actually takes a pretty hard push to get them back out.

They're built into it...it's a plastic piece that pushes back and covers the wire in the back...looks like the same as what you have, but a different design...I only know because I just put a closet system in the babies room, lol

Here's a photo of the shelves in action. Field test went well. Am very happy with this design!

Hi Matt, looks good. Didn't know you were on over here.

jscherb convinced me to post up some of my designs here. Stay tuned for more to come!

PS - I tried to change my user name so it matches on every forum, but it doesn't look like that is an option. So I guess I have to stick with BostonJKU here.

any pictures of just the rails, basically how it would look rolling down the road all closed up?

Thanks.

I usually just remove the rails, since they connect with just a single nut each. But yesterday I had to breakdown camp in the rain, so I got lazy and drove home three hours with the rails on. I may just leave them on, since they blend into the ladder. During the weekend, I also learned that the wire shelves are GREAT for hanging just about anything and keeping items handy. Of all the systems and features I have designed for my Jeep, I think this one might be the best so far!

How are the rails secured at the bottom?

Good question - the beautiful thing about this design is that the rails are NOT secured at the bottom. There is a small rubber bumper that braces the rail against the side of the Jeep. Even when driving on rough trails, the rails stay firm against the side of the Jeep and do not swing or slide. The tension on the nut at the top of the rail where it is mounted into the canopy channel also helps. When at camp, the shelves snap in tightly and hold the rails very rigid. In fact, when this shelving system is installed in a closet, the rails simply hang down and are not secured at the bottom.

I spoke with Rhino about this invention, since it is such a perfect upgrade to their side-mounted canopy. The shelves pack completely flat (I just shove them in the 2-inch space between my fridge and the sidewall of the cargo area. Having the extra shelf space is REALLY nice at camp.
