DIY Pop-up Flatbed Truck Camper with shower for 1/2t

I would steer away from the sikaflex to bond the ACM to frame. I have had several issues with the sikaflex being used to bond gasket to frame or even ABS to metal. I used a knock off of 3M VHB tape that is good for 15lbs/in. I have seen no failures in three years of hard use and it is much...

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Other than that I have been using and abusing my truck and camper all year. So of course some obligatory pictures of adventures.

I decided to build my own Pop Top camper

Well it happened again. Since last year February the Sikaflex attached gasket came loose on the front passenger corner as well as the Sikaflex on the bed rails. I band aided it by just shoving it back in place every few weeks, but inevitably I knew I was going to have to remove the camper a...

    Steel wheel questions

I drive a newer 3rd gen Tacoma and I weigh 6500lbs loaded. I wouldn't dream of going back to an E rated tire. If it were me and I had a 93 pickup i'd stay with the D rated tires and rock the 15" rims. I currently roll around on a set of 34 10.5R17 BFG ATs which are load rating D. E's are too...

Pop up toppers (GFC, Lone Peak, Super Pacific, etc.) how much condensation and or leakage in the PNW or other humid environments?

https://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/i-decided-to-build-my-own-pop-top-camper.224851/ There ya go. I agree way too cold for Sikaflex right now.

Pop up toppers (GFC, Lone Peak, Super Pacific, etc.) how much condensation and or leakage in the PNW or other humid environments?

I live in seattle and have had my DIY camper on my truck for 3 winters. I used to get excessive moisture and mildew prior to insulating the roof. Since I insulated the roof I have not had any condensation issues. I do get some water intrusion from the front corners where the gaskets meet. This...

Ways to attach the canvas of a pop-up camper to the frame

no and no. I will say though that if a corner of the drip edge gets sandwiched between the roof and body then I will get water intrusion. My drip edge is also nothing fancy, it is 3" wide black gorilla tape and it has been going strong for two years. I just repair it as necessary.

Ways to attach the canvas of a pop-up camper to the frame

I use a drip edge that prevents any water intrusion while closed.

Suspension for an overweight Tacoma (2nd gen)?

I have a 3rd gen tacoma on BP-51s and it is amazing. My rig's full weight with passengers and gear is 6500lbs. So i am definitely in the overweight category. I'll definitely second the brakes are going to be borderline dangerous, but once you know that just keep your distance as best you can.

Determining safe tire load rating required

I have a similar setup weight wise. Fully loaded i'm at 6500lbs. I have been running 34x10.5/R16 Load Range D for just over a year and done about 12k miles with no issues and I still rock crawl my truck like a delinquent. I would not run Load Range E tires they are overkill and the ride will be...

You in the Seattle area by chance? I think i've seen your rig around. I have the DCSB Tacoma with white rims and white camper. Also you should check out Sherpa Equipment Roof Racks if you are in the market for one. I'd love to check this thing out in person good work!

Pop-up versus hard-side height and fuel economy survey

2018 Tacoma that is more on the fully built side of things than not. Weight is 6900lbs wet with two people and two dogs. Height is 7'6". I added a wind fairing which help significantly with my MPGs. Currently cruising on the hwy at 55mph I can get 17.5mpg. I think prior to the camper I was at...

Are pop-up campers more popular than hard-side purely due to how they look when mounted on a truck?

I have a Tacoma with a pop up and I sit at 7'6" and I can say that our here in the PNW I have been on many trails where if I was an inch higher I wouldn't fit. Then again i also like ot do more technical trails and when off camber having a pop up prevents me from hitting trees or rocks on the...
