    1985 E150 4x4 Adventure

So I ended up chasing wires too far down a rabbit hole and interior ended up being much more torn out than intended. More to come since sound deadening and insulation will happen

    1985 E150 4x4 Adventure

I'll have to update this thread as actively as my other one. Been doing tons of work on the van. Finally bit the bullet and ended up getting an Apex Badlands winch from Harbor Freight. Have the front bumper removed for now so that I can have my winch on. Was planning on drilling and bolting a...

Finally My Own 4x4 Van (1985 E150 Chassis)

Well this is the first vehicle I've owned that I've actually gotten around to installing a winch. Harbor Freight lured me in to get the Apex Badlands 12,000. Still debating if I'll exchange it for the 16,000. Anyway, had to remove the front bumper for now. Used the Harbor Freight step bumper...

Finally My Own 4x4 Van (1985 E150 Chassis)

Did tons of work on the van right after I got back from my 2,200 mile vacation. Ford 3G alternator, Hella E code light housings, Hella 55/100 bulbs, headlight relays, new wiper switch, new headlight switch, adjusted e brake cable so that the light no longer pops up, added a 60" white/amber light...

Finally My Own 4x4 Van (1985 E150 Chassis)

So I did just a couple other TLC items to the van today. Some different wire and fuel line routing. No updated pictures of that yet. Tuned the carb as well, much better responses from it now. After some quick Youtube learning I found out that the Edelbrock 1406 is super simple to get dialed in...

H6054 HID, LED, or High Wattage Halogen?

I ended up going with Hella E code housings, and a few different bulb options from Hella. I have the relays and wiring needed on order as well. I'll update this thread with stock H6054, GE Nighthawk H6054, Hella 55/65, Hella 80/100, and Hella 90/100. I imagine I'll use 55/100 Hella as the...

H6054 HID, LED, or High Wattage Halogen?

Just like the title says. I have a pair of H6054 headlights and as great as it is to drive blindly at night(exaggerating) I'd really like to see what I'm doing. I'm mostly leaning to conversion metal housing and running 80/100 halogens with proper relays. Cheap, easy, and well proven method...

Finally My Own 4x4 Van (1985 E150 Chassis)

Well I mounted up the found AC compressor today. Wasn't an exact match up like I hoped it would be but good enough that I could adapt a couple things to make it work. I need to source a couple more bolts for the idler and a V belt. I'm thinking I'll actually be able to run a second alternator as...

    Time to Replace Old Parts

Shocks are not used to be load bearing. They dampen vibrations and as the name implies, sudden shocks to the suspension. If your suspension springs are worn get new springs and new shocks. As a side note, overload shocks are available and may get some lift but shock mounts aren't meant to bear...

Finally My Own 4x4 Van (1985 E150 Chassis)

Should I be worried about the oil pressure I'm seeing? Cold start up is nice and high, while it is warming it seems solid as well but once it is fully warmed I seem to only be getting about 9psi in gear at idle. I switched over to a 15w40 to get some higher pressure already.

Finally My Own 4x4 Van (1985 E150 Chassis)

First of all, got a new camera(phone) so hopefully picture quality will have improved some. Second I've been having a terrible time with the cooling system ever since I got a new 13psi cap for it. I used an inspection mirror to see that I was leaking at the old thermostat housing gasket. I had...

Finally My Own 4x4 Van (1985 E150 Chassis)

My plan today was to get some engine cleaning accomplished, along with the undercarriage more. A simple detour of changing the black positive cable to a red one ended up being much more work than I anticipated though. Did a ton of wire tracing and clean out. Don't have any after pictures yet but...

Finally My Own 4x4 Van (1985 E150 Chassis)

Did some fine tuning of the transmission today. It actually shifts how I like it now. Hesitation is likely a combination of carb and the large exhaust leak where the down pipe comes off of the driver side manifold. Have a Facet electric pump on the way to get rid of the wonky mechanical and...

Reason for the swap comes down to getting better MPG and peace of mind knowing the history of the engine I put

Finally My Own 4x4 Van (1985 E150 Chassis)

Ugh, ran into a whole slew of little gremlins and issues today while changing out the weeping hose. Got some fueling issues I'm going to need to work out. Going to go full aftermarket gauges as well I think. Sick of the non operating and spotty gauge cluster. Figure as the days go by I'm just...
