This is an awesome writeup, thanks for all the details.
I'm planning a build for my 4th gen 4Runner. Like you, it will sometimes be used for my wife and our infant (not born yet) so I want to leave the seats in place. I don't do serious wheeling, so I don't think I need the room that you get by...
Good points! I'm having a hard time finding a 2009/2010 WK GC. I had heard the 2009+ Hemi is more reliable which is why I was leaning towards an '09 or '10. I passed up on a 2011 WK2 GC a few weeks back that I am really regretting, mostly because of all the creature comforts it has
Loved this thread, just read all of it while I'm debating what light-duty overland vehicle to go with. Considering the WK Jeep, the Commander, and some other SUV's like the 2005-2012 Pathfinder and maybe even a Hummer H3. Did you consider any other SUV's before choosing the WK?
That's not too bad at all. I imagine it's pretty easy to work on the van, right? I think both should have the engine bay that can be accessed from inside the van
Haha thanks. They are asking $1000 but I am certain they would negotiate a lot on price. I am thinking I might be better off looking for a newer van and I could always hit them up for parts! It's got 2 awnings and I could probably repurpose some of the interior parts too.
Hey guys/gals, there's a local camper van for sale with the cabin over the roof. "95k miles, has clean title, all working parts & tires + spare but not working now. Was fine when parked in 2008, after maintenance done, but may need some general maintenance to get running again, primarily...
Random question, about how high off the ground does the tent sit? Trying to decide if it's something my dogs could jump into. They have no problem jumping into the bed of my truck (with the tailgate down).
Great looking ride, OP! Reading this has added the SX4 to my radar. I wanted an SUV that I could take out exploring on weekends, and drive in rain/snow to keep my 2-door car nice and clean in the winter. But the plus to the SX4 over a bigger SUV is that I can daily drive it to work and not rack...
Thanks for the reply. I went through the build thread the other day and now I forget -- roughly how much does it weigh? I ask because I see you have it tagged, but I don't know what the laws are like for trailers in Alabama. I believe in my state it's under 1500lbs or under 2000lbs and it...
Still have this? If so, how big is the mattress and how are you powering the lights etc.? Is that something I would wire to my vehicle or is there a battery for the trailer?
Thanks!
