Again, thank you all! Especially Lance990 and Mundo - I will definitely do all that was suggested. The boys and I looked about 20 different TCs and quite a few shorter Class Cs this weekend. I'm sure now that I will want the bigger TC like the Lance 990 or Squire 8000. However, knowing the...

so basically... 3/4 ton/1 ton heavier camper

I considered a trailer for a half a moment and then realized that the one thing I know for sure I do NOT want to do is tow something. Maybe in the future I'd consider it. That's only if I can get over my fear of not turning correctly and hitting something, or getting too close to the cliff...

I can't thank you all enough for thoughts, opinions, questions, etc. They've all made me think and consider my options. Tomorrow my boys and I are going to be looking at truck campers. The place we're going has the one I think I want (Legend 990) as well as 20-something others. And, thanks...

That was definitely a thought I had, but given the other reasons a class c or van conversion isn't the best option for us, the stored car isn't necessary.

Thanks. I already homeschool my 13 year old. Taking on my 9 year old will be a breeze. I'm sure all newbies feel the same excitement I'm feeling right now! We are more than ready to get out and adventure!!!

If I had a 1 ton swd, would I need to get airbags and updated suspension? Or, better stated, are the airbags and updated suspension highly recommended in a 1 ton swd?

I did consider a class c. It was my first thought. A few things put it out of the running though. 1. There's only one passenger seat, so one or more people would always have to be in the back. Not the biggest deal, I guess, but it's something I consider a possible nuisance, especially since...

so basically... 3/4 ton/1 ton heavier camper

Honestly, I'm only going by what I've seen online in pictures so far. My plans have changed a bit since I first started this search/journey, but one thing I'm pretty confident in is that this will be our home for an uncertain amount of time. I plan on traveling as much as possible and only...

so basically... 3/4 ton/1 ton heavier camper

I had originally thought about getting a suburban and camping/hoteling out of it, but the more research I do I'm thinking a truck and camper might be the better way to go. My question is this: I know I want a bigger/heavier camper. I really like the Lance Legend 945/990 and Squire 8000/9000...

    Platform bed in suburban w/seats

Awesome! Thanks so much for all the info!! I'll look into it all. Sleeping in the truck will be a last option as there are three of us, but I still need it to be an option. I'm 5'10 and my 13 year old is already pushing 6'. My 9 year old is 4'7-8 and growing fast, too. We're going to need...

    Platform bed in suburban w/seats

I've seen plenty of platform beds built in suburbans and other SUVs, but they all remove the seats. Is it possible to build one and still keep the seats in, just fold them down? I'd love to have the option of sleeping in the truck, but I need the seats.
