Most popular Land Rover to mod for overlanding.

I would say for NA a D1 is a good buy. Basically the same underpinnings as a Defender. Robust design easy to modify and can be pretty affordable.

Are older Land Rover Discoveries really that bad? How do they compare to contemporary Toyotas?

I have to second that D1/D2s do get a bad rap and much of it is unwarranted. Yes they are quirky trucks can be annoying and *may* require more attention than our Nissan/Yota/Merc equivalent. I too have seen that so much the (I had a buddy with one and it was a POS ) yet when asked what went...

Irwin the 1995 Disco (200tdi and 5 Spd swapped)

Excellent post!!!!. I have been following. I really admire your Disco. You have what we really all desire a (Manual trans/diesel). I too am kinda restoring a D1 (Auto/V8) but being in California its being geared more towards rock crawling. Keep the stories and tech coming it's very enjoyable ?

What is a 100% custom modification you have on your Land Rover?

Not really custom persay but I took a RRC arb bumper and added sides to fit the Discovery lines better and also trim the wings to increase approach angles.

    Casper & Outono - 2x 1998 Discovery 1 Builds

Lovely build bro. The D1 looks great. And I agree a modded D1 is a seriously cool looking truck.

Are older Land Rover Discoveries really that bad? How do they compare to contemporary Toyotas?

Been driving them for 18 years no they aren't really that bad. As with any vehicle of that vintage maintenance or repairs will be required.. the good thing is the Discovery 1 for more the most part is a robust/ sturdy vehicle and is straight forward.

Pre bumper build questions for a disco II

the metal for the stock bumper isn't very thick at all. It would really depend on what type of offroad you would engage in. Light wheeling (dirt roads, easy scenic trails, overlanding) maybe boxing it in the rear and reinforcing the mounting points it might be ok. but for anything Serious it may...

Thank you!!! I appreciate it :) Some don't like the look or build but Its nice to know some do. The next big thing is some Sliders and then like a exo cage for the fenders that will tie into the front bumper.
