    Snow Camping

I absolutely LOVE winter camping. The added challenge of getting to even the easiest summer campsites, getting cozy in your gear at night, it's great. I typically prefer to sleep inside my vehicle, but if I bring my son or am feeling fancy I might take the RTT out.

looks like a tire "fix" but... the pricing is abusive.

I've been really happy with my current Duratracs, I'd be interested in the new Duratrac RT as well. That pricing on the KO2 is insane.

    Shiftpod; The obvious alternative

The age 'ol ground tent vs RTT debate, sprinkled with quick-deploy ground tents. Porque no los dos? I have a Gazelle T4, a Clam Pavillion, and a RTT. They all have their pros/cons and I use them all depending on where/when we're camping. Everyone is different, however here are a few examples...

    Lets talk shovels

Ironman4x4 3 Piece Shovel I got this a while back- Pros: Long handle or short D-handle, packs up small, comes with a heavy duty bag for interior vehicle storage (stores under my seat), also the handles are beefy heavy duty steel. Cons: on the heavier side so when I go out in snow I bring a...

    Shovel / Axe Mount

Quick Fists are pretty tried and true and work well. No locking feature though so you'd have to wrap in a cable lock or something.

Fall run to NJ Pine Barrens & Eastern Long Island NY.

What a great loop and thank you for sharing. It's cool to see that there are campgrounds and nature so relatively close to a sprawling metropolis like NYC. I've never been to the Northeast, but my sister now lives in PA so I'm looking forward to visiting one day.

    Basic hand pump water jugs

That's exactly what I use, a charge lasts for weeks of use so I haven't had it die on me, but it is battery powered. Based on research I was planning on switching to a manual pump like the one here, but I haven't gotten around to it since I'm already invested in the electric one and it works so...

What caused my sudden increase in MPG?

Were you driving south? Going downhill slightly would have probably helped.

    shovel + axe mount

I'm a fan of QuickFists, they work great to hold things like that. Could easily bolt one to the extruded aluminum or to the side.

In Praise of the Humble Rental Car

Another pro-tip is to examine the rental-car insurance policies provided by your Credit Card. I was able to save a significant amount of money daily by utilizing this vs buying the rental agencies policy. I had to use it too and in my case it worked great to reimburse me for damaged caused to my...

    gazelle set up while raining?

I just set it up as fast as possible and throw the rain fly over quickly. Other than that maybe you could attach the rain fly prior to popping the tent open?
