    The Great Camp Chair Debate

I was looking at some Lifetime contour chairs at Costco a few days ago, and was surprised at how light they were. They fold up not quite as compactly as the ALPS directors chairs I have (meaning not well at all) - but for comfort, sturdiness and price, they seem hard to beat.

    Camp shower idea

The size is interesting. My initial thought was that it looked a good bit smaller than my Zodi extreme, which has a gallon more capacity. But the Zodi is only 9 x 9 x 24. The Zodi is heavier though, I'm sure (and of course $50 more expensive.) I like the nozzle on the RinseKit better I...

What's your favorite budget sleeping bag for summer bikepacking?

That Marmot bag comes with a compression sack and looks like it would pack up to about an 8" ball. It's nothing like a $600 down bag of course - but for under $50, not bad.

What's your favorite budget sleeping bag for summer bikepacking?

You can get a Marmot Mavericks bag for under $50 from Sierra Trading Post if you have a 30% coupon. They have some Kelty ones too for a little bit more.

Chrome vinyl wrap on the roof

I'm not sure I'd do shiny silver - the reflections off that could be blinding to truckers or anyone else sitting higher than you. But a matt silver or white should work just as well. Even better would be a full roof rack with a mesh floor to it. Or a roof top tent, though probably not on a...

Discovery Sport vs. Grand Cherokee Overland vs. 4Runner TRD

On the 4runner - if it were me, I'd skip the TRD and get the Trail with KDSS, especially if you're doing mostly highway and with a trailer.

    Roof Rack Gear Security

That was my original plan, but I like the idea of having a single strap instead of both a tie down and a cable.

    Roof Rack Gear Security

Old thread, but since it's already been resurrected... I bought some of the Steelcore straps for use on our rack, and I'm pretty happy with them. The straps themselves are very heavy-duty and well made - probably worth the extra cost alone - and the locking clasp at least doesn't appear to...

Build your own aluminum roofrack with only a saw, drill, and hex wrench

I decided to go this route with my rack, and just received the pieces yesterday. I don't have anything cut or assembled yet, but I thought I'd give my initial impression of the system, ordering process, etc. I went with this system for a number of reasons: 1) I needed an unusual size. I...

Jerry Cans: NATO Style now 50 state legal

LOL, not sure where that rant came from - I guess you had it ready just in case. I have no opinion on the regulation of fuel cans or nozzles really - worse things to worry about and it's not like I spent the last four years wondering how to carry fuel around. But if they make a regulation that...

    Moby1 owners?

Well I'm curious if that guy had an actual problem, beyond anything psychological I mean. The XTR's look great and there seem to be plenty of happy owners, judging from the complete absence of a used market - but surely they can't be perfect. I'd love to know what problems people run across...

2-year lead time? That can't be right.

    Jeep combat poaching in Africa

I'm curious about that bumper/fender guard combo. That's an air intake I haven't seen either.
