Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

Nice link, thank you. Long time since I've posted here. If you guys are ever bored, look up CARB requirements for heavy duty vehicles (they all have to go to zero emissions). If I've read correctly CARB is supposed to maintain a list of vehicle types for which there's no ZEV alternative...

Need help with a power window (doesn't move)

So either something is getting in the way or the regulator is bad. Open up the door and do a visual. If all looks good, replace regulator.

    Coolant Rust

I used to get muddy looking coolant after a flush. Long story short, went to an old school radiator shop, had them remove the end tanks, clean up the radiator and weld it all back together. They also performed a flush service on the entire system. After that it stayed green.

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

On the first post, pull up the BAR document under the 2017 section (document updated 1/12/18). Look at table 5. It says 96-97 Mitsubishi’s have trouble setting readiness monitors. Print it out, take to your local SMOG station and see if that’s enough to get them to test. If it is, great. If not...

Cautionary Tale for Montero Owners Who Need To SMOG Their Car

This was going to be a 2 minute reply. But I've since put an hour into gathering relevant information. Dima, Thanks for the reply. You're correct, sort of. Per the BAR linked document in my original post for 2017 (document was updated today 1/12/18), any one monitor can be not set (which is...

Congratulations. SMOG in CA can be a nightmare as Montero owners unfortunately end up learning.

1998 Headlight Control Lever, Stuck on Low Beam

I had to replace the same stalk but because the turn signal was stuck signaling left. Probably took half an hour. Just note where the harness sits so it doesn’t get in the way when you’re putting it back together. I think the part was $80.

    Won't Reset for Smog Test; P0125/ 0173/ 0300/ + Cruise Control/ Speed Sensor Error

Ultimately if the sniff test is good and no errors, but monitors not setting; CARB has their own testing places that will test the car. You need to make an appointment with them.

Fuel leak near right rear wheel

Check the seal for the fuel sending unit. I had the same problem where fluid was coming out from the top then dropping down and out. Otherwise you have a hole in your tank. You can check it easily by removing the access cover that's under the carpet. See if that area is wet.

    Gen 2.5 lean condition help

A healthy car gets good MPG IMHO. The way I check for health is to look at long term fuel trims. If the car is adjusting too much then something is off. It tends to contribute to reduced fuel efficiency as well. For reference my Gen2 gets 19 to 20 MPG on road trips around going steady 75...

    Injector troubles

I don't have the answer to your question but when I used RC Engineering, they said one injector was bad and could not be fixed. I ended up replacing that one. All others were cleaned and rebuilt.
