That's what I'm thinking but the timing was off also. Motor would turn but not start. Well I'm back up and running now. Will offer new HB bolt soon just to make sure. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

So I talked w the mechanic where I had my Montero towed to in OK and he said that HB bolt basically just backed out on its own and the HB popped off which is what I saw but I thought it had broken. They put it back on then I towed it back to Dallas where my mech who did the TB and pump kit got...

I'm sure a lot is lost/missing in translation. When it happened - the PS belt and AC belts were off, the HB pulley looked cockeyed. Being 2hrs away from home, I closed hood and called tow into Davis, OK mech shop the tow driver owned. We spoke 3 days later and his guys thought the engine...

Looking to replace HB and that bolt. Even though mechanic said HB looked fine.

My Montero lives on! All I know is that in OK, 2 belts were off the pulleys and HB appeared cocked/off sideways. Had it towed to mechanic in OK and Dustin(owner and tow driver - great guy) said that his guys thought the timing jumped and it would be very costly to repair. So I went up there...

Which manual are you referring to? I have the one by Haynes Montero 83-96.

I hoping it's not too bad$$$. Either way, gonna stick w the 3.5 and in it for the long haul. I will get more hands-on seeing as how I've misplaced any bags of cash I thought I had. Thanks PayDayGabe. Will post update.

Well I can't say I was there when they worked on it but it's a shop we've used for years on occasion. Planning to go by there tomorrow.

I hear you. Gonna definitely get new parts(crank bolt, HB, etc) depending on the diagnosis. Hopefully I hear something today.

Was out most of the day retrieving Montero. Uhaul trailer worked awesome. Have every plan to keep it. Just gonna wait and see what the actual damage is and take it from there.
