    Downsides to ambulances

If any of you are ADVRider types, here is an excellent van build-out thread. Kind of what I would aspire to build. Although I can't weld.. so no custom topper or steel cabinetry for me. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=997157 Very nicely done. Reinforces the idea that a...

    Downsides to ambulances

My dilemma with a truck vs a van of some sort is: A) Used trucks tend to be very expensive in my area. For some reason nobody buys regular old pickup trucks anymore. The used market seems flooded with exactly two trucks; the beat to hell work truck that has 200k miles of "not my truck, who...

    Downsides to ambulances

My experience towing a small trailer behind my car is that no one even blinks if you do 70-ish in a 65 MPH Interstate zone. It's a fine point though.

Are ya'll reading my mind?! Was just reading up on 12V/110V fridge/freezers today. Some great reviews and info. Big thanks! Need to read about batteries and inverters and such at some point.

I've been looking for at least a year. I won't stop.. but I'm not ready to move.

    Downsides to ambulances

After looking into insurance and registration costs, I've decided I can't justify a 2nd vehicle right now. Going to keep on living in a tent. Thanks for the advice all. Maybe next year.

Thanks for the tip. From the fleabay listing: I'm out! I'll pay more for no rust, thanks.

    Downsides to ambulances

I ride an SV650 that has been butchered to make a racing motorcycle. It looks horrible and really isn't that fast.. but it sure was cheap. Oh, and its a ton of fun. :bike_rider: Hitch mount would be for dirty-bike toys. I play with those too. Dirty-bikes are icky and gross and go outside. But...

    Downsides to ambulances

Security. Loosing an expensive motorcycle off an open trailer is easy. These things are not keyed, not registered/plated, and-most troubling-not insured. I prefer to think of it as sleeping in the garage vs parking the bike in your bedroom. Although I won't lie, I've done both. :sombrero: This...

    Downsides to ambulances

The draw of the Nissan is it is a hi-top without having a fiberglass top ready to leak or coming with German repair bills. All things equal I'd rather have a domestic V8 or diesel. The Nissan would be my 2nd choice. And the Sprinter my last choice. I hear the repair bills can get nasty. Still...

    Downsides to ambulances

He's posted that van on a motorcycle site I read (advrider) as well. I've read every damned page of it. It's what got me started on this whole idea. And god, can he take a photograph. Or maybe it's just that beautiful west. Very close to exactly what I want. Although he's now doing a "redesign"...

    Downsides to ambulances

I'm open to a trailer. Another appeal of a 1-ton van/truck based build is tow capacity is more than enough to handle a 2-2500 lbs open utility trailer with bikes on it. I've been advised that putting a stinky, dirty, leaky motorcycle in your living room isn't the hottest of ideas. Far less...

    Downsides to ambulances

I know vans + motos are old news. But the idea seems incredibly passe these days. 99.999% seem to favor a fire belching stupid-duty pickup instead. I do know one that runs an ambulance for this use. He speaks favorably about it. I always saw his rig and thought he'd done it just to be...

    Downsides to ambulances

Greetings. Registered to ogle the photos from all ya'll's build threads. Big thanks for posting them. Consider this a blanket thank you to all that share your work and results on these forums. I am ambulance curious. I ride motorcycles, a lot. Last year I started road racing. This...
