M1101 Adventure Base Camp AKA "ABC" Formally "College Adventure Build"

Hey all, a little update. Summer of 2019 I lived in CO working for a vet and on a ranch out there. I brought the trailer with me but spent far more nights out with a saddle for my pillow if you know what I mean. I did get out a couple times and here are some pics from those trips. As you can...

M1101 Adventure Base Camp AKA "ABC" Formally "College Adventure Build"

Been a while since I posted on here, guess it's been because I've been busy out doing stuff. Anyway here's some recent pictures from spring break. I rebuilt the rack, the 1/8" round was starting to bend in some places so I upgraded to 3/16 square and it did very nicely on my most recent trip...

Idaho Tackling a Tough Land Use Issue

Thanks for bringing this to the attention of those on here! I love public lands and believe we need to promote access. It is crazy that people think they have the right to close off thousands of acres that belong to all of us through legal avenues. Not even to mention landlocked and checker...

    Meet the "Hitch Hotel"

https://gearjunkie.com/hitch-hotel-expandable-camper Here is a GearJunkie article about it. I too am skeptical of the ability for it to be carried on some of the smaller cars pictured in the kickstarter.

M1101 Adventure Base Camp AKA "ABC" Formally "College Adventure Build"

We got out in the trailer again. Did a little more primitive camping time which made me happy as that is much more my style. Found a good site in Hoosier National Forest and despite some rain we had a good time. Mods to the trailer for this trip were reinforcement of the RTT rack, and...

Cheap tricks and solutions - product modifications, DIY, or repurposed items- not on-sale items

Another tip, I have cut some old indoor outdoor carpet to place under the annex on the RTT. It could also be placed in the vestibule on a ground tent. It gives a nice clean place to put shoes and gear without getting muddy and dusty. Definitely a car camping accessory and I only bring it when...

M1101 Adventure Base Camp AKA "ABC" Formally "College Adventure Build"

The RTT rack is done with the exception of a few adjustments that I want to make. It had it's maiden voyage this weekend and worked pretty good. I thought I was using steel that was plenty thick but one of the horizontal bars bent while driving so I am going to slide a thicker walled smaller...

Cheap tricks and solutions - product modifications, DIY, or repurposed items- not on-sale items

I use tyvek for ground cloths and sun shades. It is a little noisy the first trip, but after that it is really nice. Best part is I got the roll for free.

Thanks for the responses on re configuring the tongue guys. Your set ups are looking pretty nice. I have added electric brakes and new tongue to the long list of mods, just after RTT rack and paint.

M1101 Adventure Base Camp AKA "ABC" Formally "College Adventure Build"

The trailer is coming along. I have welded all the bases for the new RTT rack. It they are .25" plate steel welded to 1.25" .125 thickness round tube. This will later adjust up and down as the 1.25 nests inside 1.5" .125 thick round tube, which the whole rack is made of. I plan on using some...

Water shoes (not the crappy mesh/rubber ones)

I second Chacos. I have high arches and they fit perfect. I wore Keen's for a while but found them insufficient for hiking even short distances. They also stank when worn not in water. Maybe that's just my feet though. I have narrowed down my footwear to three categories these days : boots...

Survival survey for a paper due

    1. I usually pack freeze dried meals (usually homemade). If I am in a hurry or desperate ramen or backcountry pantry. 2. I usually avoid having to pack enough water because that would be a lot of weight. I prefer to find a place with a potable water source nearby and pack either tablets or a...

    M101 trailer, loading tips/weight distribution

I would suggest having about 60% of the weight forward of the axle. What can cause the fishtale is when there is not sufficient weight on your rear tires to give them maximum traction. The biggest thing I can say is that if the tail starts wagging the dog, hit the brakes and slow down. I will...

Help with home built roof rack on trailer, and a hello

Welcome! I am interested in some of the responses on this question as I am preparing to build a RTT rack for my M1101. Are you using square or round tube?
