    Which van for budget build?

Keep us posted, BTW. Best of luck. Vans do make the best campers (IMHO), even though I certainly like trucks with campers, shells, tear drop trailers, roof top tents on wagons, etc., etc.... Another option is a mini-van. Take a look at Jucy Rentals. We rented one, and the rear kitchen is...

    Which van for budget build?

Conversion vans with a slight raised fiberglass roof can be had for pretty cheap, it seems. Personally, I'd want to take all the decals they tend to have, and the fiberglass running boards, but that slightly higher roof would be nice, and worth the effort. Even it meant a monstaliner paint job...

    Sprinter versus Transit?

Funny you should mentions this. We bought some used equip from a contractor with a brand new Transit van, so we would up talking vans. He had a Sprinter for about 100K miles, and the engine was fine, but it was rusting out. The nail in coffin was the exhaust needed replacing and it was going...

    fridge size for full timing

But with the fridge, I've found that we could slip two beers in before supper and have them cool enough to drink with supper. This was with a rental van (Jucy Camper) and the fridge was a 29L (30 qt) drawer. Our family of 4 could get by with this, but a larger one would have allowed stocking...

Maxtrax vs TRED vs Tracmats vs X-Trax vs X-Jack

Says they are made out of polyethylene; MaxxTrax are made out of glass filled Nylon, a much stronger material. That doesn't mean polyethylene is unsuitable, but I'd probably pass until the reviews come in.

    Yakima rooftop tent

"Made from the same lightweight and breathable materials as backcountry tents - 210D nylon" Back country gear is made to keep the weight low, so the durability has to suffer, at least somewhat. I wonder if they will offer replacement tents, at a fair cost? Knowing you could replace the tent...

Looking for a Sleeping Pad? I spent a year testing 23 different models.

I do like the dual chamber pad of the Sea to Summit Comfort Light pad you tested. We recently experienced a leak on an old Big Agnes pad. And even with two different people submerging the pad in a stock tub, on two different occasions, we could never find the any leak. So the patch kit would...

    Pop-tops: are they worth it?

I have a Vanagon pop-top and love it. But if I am by myself and it is rainy or cold, I leave it down. For solo travel, I believe I'd have no problem at all with a tin-top. Perhaps the same for two people as well. But I have a "Weekender" interior, that is no stove, sink, etc. so really I onky...

Portable water filtration, questions for the knowledgeable.

Yeah I have a Katadyn metal-ceramic filter that my wife bought me. It will likely out-last me. And yeah, it's a work out. I don't like the weight for back backing, but if I carry only a pt. to a qt. & just filter water on the trail, more or less as needed, I'm ahead of my co-hikers carrying...
