    Wheel modification

Nobody makes 31x9.5r15LT AT tires anymore and 10.5 is just to wide for me. Typically on an XJ 31x10.5r15 requires higher lift, trimming, etc. If you go to a 235/85r16 you don't need to trim and you can get away with a 3 inch lift. For now I'm sticking with the 15 inch and trying to buy General...

    Wheel modification

Because 16 inch tires are so much easier to get in the sizes I'm interested in, like 235/85r16, etc. I'd like to take my stock Jeep 15 inch steelies (see picture) , remove the centers, and then have them welded into 16 inch outer rims. Back in the day, when I lived SoCal I had stuff like that...

    Post Pic's of your Jeep

Reminds me of my 84 in the exact szme color. Patina is good, my 96 XJ has lots of it.

    Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac RT

My DuraTracs are 7 years old so I'm thinking about new tires soon. I see the new DuraTrac RT is out, but I'm somewhat confused. From what I understand the new wave of RT tires (Rugged Terrain) are supposed to be between an AT and MT, but also a pavement tire. Isn't the definition of an RT the...

Time to buy a Gladiator? $20k off MSRP’s!

Locally I'm seeing 10% off MSRP for the most part. I like the Gladiator concept, but in my opinion it's wheelbase is too long, it's bed is too short, and I'd prefer an extended cab instead of 4 doors. I do like the pick up concept, just not the execution. If I were in the market for a new Jeep...

    Electric Chain Saw

I have 2 Greenworks chainsaws. A 16 inch 40v and 18 inch 80v. Both exceeded my expectations and cut like butta! The 40v is 7 years old and leaks chain lube some, but not bad. The 18 inch leaks nothing and tackles everything. I have 5 acres wit 4 acres of trees and use both all the time. Would...

    Traction Board Recommendations

I haven't heard anyone mention Aluminum ones. I personally have never owned any boards, but could have used them a couple times. Thinking seriously of going Al.

Outstanding video comparing wide versus narrow tires

I've been seriously considering this size as well, however it's not as widely available as the 235/85r16 for AT and MT. I'm still open to it, but I won't need new tires until next year sometime. I wish they made a 225/85r16.

Outstanding video comparing wide versus narrow tires

Marketing, peer pressure, perceived performance, monkey see monkey do, take your pick of reasons.

Outstanding video comparing wide versus narrow tires

Great video. Us skinny guys always knew it was true and even if the results were less conclusive I still prefer the skinny look.

Perfect off-highway tire = LTX? What?

I recently sold a truck that had the LTX tires for 8 years. I cut the sidewall similiar, but not quite as bad as the post #182 in year one, and it never was an issue for the rest of it's life. The truck was used in mild off highway conditions but occasionally a rock was inevitable. They were...

Is the roof tent trend over?

Back to the original question. No it's not over, but too many bought thinking it was the best ever. Now marketplace, CL, etc has lots for sale and they stay for sale a loooong time. Also, so many driving around with them daily taking up space and payload. They're great for the few that explore...

VW Touareg V6 Diesel Overland Build thread

Watching because my new neighbor has an '09 V6 diesel like yours and I love it. Makes me want to find one. Anyway he's running LT265/70r18's (32.6) and has all the options. He claims however that he has the front locker option which as mentioned here and elsewhere doesn't exist except in...

Determining safe tire load rating required

A quick search says your GVWR is between 4650 and 5500 depending on the model. Maybe I'm wrong and I hope so, because you're 1000 over that if true. That aside, the tire tables are an industry standard and you'll be fine as long as your below the stated rating. As far as load range E goes, I...
