Ski Bum Truck V2.0, F450 Rough Road RV

I'm jealous of your ski closet. That must be nice!

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

I was a little suprised mine started at -15C. I keep thinking it can't be good for the engine, so I'm just hoping I won't have to cold start it like that again.

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

I don't know why I never posted this here, but here were some interesting pics taken at Dusty Dog Garage when we were trying to figure out what size lift to use with the cut out. Seems like so long ago. We tried a 2.5in lift and it wasn't quite enough. If I remeber right, we ended up doing...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

Snowy weather! I tried very hard to find a local shop that would sipe my tires for me but nobody would do it. A couple shops said that they could fit tires up to 38in and a commercial shop could fit tires that big, but couldn't do the mpt-81 because it's too luggy and uneven compared to the...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

I don't, just my overall weight. I guess I need to take it somewhere else and re-weigh it. What did you end up putting in the rear?

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

I'm really starting to think about the ride quality... Being an F-450 chassis cab it's a REALLY stiff ride. Kinda beats you death on the road. The MPT-81s and the camper help a little bit but I'm thinking about what I can do to improve the ride while still being able to handle the weight. I'm...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

I've never actually had it fail to start, I just don't like cold starting if it's below 0F if I can help it. I do run PS +cetane boost in my fuel in the winter and I keep fuel filters and diesel 911 with me just in case.

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

Yesterday Dusty Dog Garage completed the bulletproofing on our build. We ended up replacing more than we originally thought since everything was already pulled out of the truck. So we ended up with a shiny new turbo and a number of other items along with the egr cooler and oil cooler. There will...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

Right, we can make a U-Turn pretty easily. The only thing I'll say is that the backend has to swing around so if there's a tree in the middle of the turn, I have to pull past it a bit and then turn around. UPDATES I had recently tasked Dusty Dog Garage with coming up with a quote for...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

Total length from the front license plate to the back wall is 21ft 9in. The spare tire and A/C unit stick out a little past that. The tire rack is pretty burly. I think it's tubular aluminum but I didn't ask what material it's made of. It's mounted to the back frame of the camper which is...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

Let's get a few more pics in! We got back from Moab where we attended the AAC Cragging Classics. It was a great first trip for the new camper. We didn't take it off road yet, just a camping test. I did drive through a lot of snow this morning though. I wish we had taken some pictures while...

Where do you ski at? I'll PM you if I'm heading there.

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

Our system has a water bladder that we put underneath the truck which acts like a staging area. We have a little compartment for it next to the stairs for it. The filters don't necessarily need to keep up with the shower :)

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

The frame is aluminum with a foam insulation filler. Inside the frame is a hydrophobic insulation. The exterior is a hydrophobic insulated panel with fiberglass adhered to it and the inside is another hydrophic insulated panel with an interior material (I forget the name of it) adhered to it...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

I have a feeling that the shower reuse system is going to evolve over time, but for starters I have a 5 stage system down to ultrafiltration which is a 20 sediment pre-filter, then a 5 micron particle filter, 1 micron solid carbon filter, 0.01 micron membraine filter, microcrystalline micron...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

It's here! Phoenix pop up completed the chassis mounted camper yesterday and I'm very pleased with it! More to come!

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

I took my focus off of the build for a bit to get married (seems like a good enough excuse!) but in my absence Phoenix Pop Up has been working away steadily. Word has it that it'll be ready later this week! They're working with a subcontractor to get the 6 RVS 360 cameras on the outside wired in...

    SRW 450 Mountain Build

These pictures are about a week old but better late than never! The windows are here and installed. I'm pretty excited with how they turned out. My north star windows didn't open very well so I'm excited to have some I can pop open easily. Interior view of the bigger window. This is where my...

Why F-550 instead of F-450 chassis cab?

ERs gvwr is 21,060lbs. I think they have Ford recertify it after all the suspension changes. Too heavy imo but I've never owned one.

    Dogs traveling in camper?

I have a dog and a cat and they both ride in the cab of the truck. Usually the dog is in the back seat and the cat is in the front. I don't let them ride in my truck camper.
