    XJ/ZJ as budget off roader

I’m still (more?) on the fence now. There seem to be very few if any XJs around my area that I’d even consider, but there seems to be a good variety of ZJ and WJs. I like the look of the WJ more, and I can’t imagine the ZJ is any less electronic reliant. I have a 3500 diesel and a 100 series...

    XJ/ZJ as budget off roader

I’m a fan of the straight 6, and the looks of the XJ, and given that I already have a very nice 100 series, the lighter and more offroad bias of the XJ is winning so far. What are the typical rust areas to check out, and which t-case do I want? I always get the various “trac” models confused...

    XJ/ZJ as budget off roader

nwoods: I’m sure there are a ton of threads on this, but unfortunately whoever writes the software for the search function on these forums has decided that “ZJ” or “XJ” do not have enough letters to be searchable. Luckychase5: of course I remember you from the diesel side. I read your...

    XJ/ZJ as budget off roader

So I already have a nicely modded 100 series Land Cruiser, and have owned CJs, TJs and JKs. I am looking for a cheap option to tow behind my truck and camper to explore some relatively easy passes in Colorado and Utah. There isn’t any rock crawling type use planned at this point so a 2–3”...

    HUB Overland 100 Build

You had me until post #10. I don’t see the massive love for Tundra wheels. The 100 series wheel is strong, light and looks awesome. I liked the silver cladding better too, but I realize it’s just dip. You’ve definitely built a capable 100 in a hurry! How are you liking the Icon suspension?

    Bought a LX470 - I have questions

I agree with you 100%. Some of us offered sound advice and welcomed another happy 100 owner aboard and others have to ruin it. I seldom visit here anymore as it becomes more and more like a semi polite version of Pirate. As long as the OP can ignore the argumentative drivel, the helpful...

    VW Beetle Classic... questions pre-acquisition

That’s a great project. I’ve been looking at Baja Bugs a bit lately, and have a Manx style buggy in the yard that I’m starting to get running again. It’s on a ‘63 chassis with 3000 original miles. It was only used at a duck hunting camp by a friend’s grandfather. It’s got lots of potential...

    Bought a LX470 - I have questions

I wasn’t going to respond to the stupidity, but feel I have to. I have owned multiple Suburbans, K2500s, fullsize Blazers, F250s, F350s and Dodge 1500s, 2500s and 3500s. I have also owned many Land Cruisers. I am not a “fanatic” for any brand. What I am however, is an educated and...

BFG T/A KO2 vs Cooper STT PRO?

They have a 295/70 and 305/70 in the ST Maxx. I’ve run them both on the ‘14 Ram. The 305s look better, but rub at full lock. I initially had Toyo ATs in 285/75-18 on the truck, but they sucked hard. There is 1/2” +/- difference between 285 and 295.

    Bought a LX470 - I have questions

Spoken like someone with no idea what they are talking about. Sure, your suburban can be upgraded to be ok off road, but the LX will go far beyond what a moderately built sub will do in bone stock form. You can put some good AT tires like a Cooper ST Maxx or BFG KO2 on the LX in 285/75-16 and...

The Restoration And Build Thread For My 1992 FJ80

Oh I was beyond livid. It is a friends shop, and the only reason it was there is I was out of town and one of the front brakes seized up. I got my wife to limp it in to his shop. I had some choice words for the “tech” who did the work.

    Off Road Hard Side Camper

Ahhh. My sisters husband used to run Northern Lites fibreglass shop before he died. They lived in Naramata so if you are in Penticton you are closer to the factory than he was! I thought Bigfoot was in Alberta now, but didn’t pay much attention to them as I knew I wanted a NL for the interior...

    Off Road Hard Side Camper

I use my NL off pavement regularly. It is solid as day one after a couple of years of hard use. My only complaint is the awesome Seitz windows are easy to bush scratch. I live in BC where we have dense forests and my windows are getting a bit marked up. All the drawers, seat boxes etc are...

BFG T/A KO2 vs Cooper STT PRO?

Will and I have convinced you!? I’m super happy with my ST Maxxs. I’m running them on my 100 series now as well and love them. I did go to a 255/85 for the LC, but am considering going back to a 285/75. The steering is noticeably lighter with the 255s, but it seems to follow the grooves from...

    Tour de Canada part deux

Was Armin at that show? I missed him last time he was in Vancouver but would love to see him live. I hear Johnny Depp just spent a lot of money to have Hunters ashes sent into space. Very cool!

The Restoration And Build Thread For My 1992 FJ80

I’ve got the same Wet Okoles (same color too) in my 3500. Real sheep skins in the 100. I’d go Okole there too, but my wife drives the 100 most of the time and prefers the dead lambs. I had a reputable shop do the front brakes on my 100 a few months back and found one of the caliber pins was...

    Possibly selling? Confused.

Just look at what similar condition units are going for in your area and deduct the cost of the MC plus $500 or $1000 to make it enticing for someone to buy a vehicle with a known issue? That’s where I’d start. As for the “do not buy a Suburban” comment above, just because you have a child...
