Thoughts on Non-Land Rover axles on a Classic?

Wouldn't hesitate.. I mean it has american iron under the hood.

Long term LR3/Discovery 3 build for everyday life

Its been awhile since my last update. I'll be honest i've had some issues and most of my issues are from simple neglect from previous owners and RUST lots of it that I thought I could keep under control. Let this be a warning to potential buyers. The cheap deal isn't the deal. I paid $7,000 for...

    "Raptor"ish on the cheap

Older ranger Engine swap(5.0 should work) Long travel suspension Should do the job very well.

Bringing Sexy Back. AKA 93' LWB RRC

Coming from old diesel boat tech(including some 6.2 chevy's).. The colder the diesel the smokier. Best thing you can do is get it up to temp as fast as possible.. I'll leave that up to you because you seem to know your stuff.

Colorado diesel narrowly beats Tacoma in head to head comparison

I got a rental F150 and was shocked at how good the base 5.0 model was so I wanted one.. Or I thought until I priced one out. I got to 50k real fast. You did good. With CPO's and the fact that cars can go 200k pretty regularly these days the ratio of new vs used is getting larger and larger...

    LR3 cracked dashboard thread

Mine is perfectly cracked through my passenger airbag. Looks factory.. Should start a poll based on year built/model combo to see if there's a trend.

    LR4 transfer case

If i remember right my LR3 locks and stays locked in rock crawl mode if that helps you with anything. Somebody has control issues.. My LR3 has never hung me out to dry with the electronics and if anything make off roading kind of boring because it just simply works really really well. I beat...

    2005 Land Rover LR3 with coil conversion/all terrains(and a few issues) $3,900

Seems like a major steal and if these things were more desirable in my area i'd buy and flip it. Seems like a simple fix and other than the fuel sending unit and misfire(actuator switch is a free diy) seems clean. https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/d/2005-land-rover-lr3-hse/6432623442.html

    Trailer axle

Craigslist opens up options. Junked out campers might have great bones. Take the camper to the dump and have the heavy equip rip it off. Plenty of used boat trailers that need work up top with good axles. Going a step further could be a Tahoe axle welded on(would look cool but more weight/drag).

    Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

I'm going to go back on what I said because I remember this being the case D1 vs D2 and lumped them in. I have an LR3 and know all to well about sensors but that being said it's never disabled the traction control system or EAS(not a problem either way with a Gap tool to clear/disable systems)...

2017: the year of the lightweight ADV motorcycle

I'm 5'6" so I have a similar issue with bikes. From my experience most of the lower bikes simply reduce ground clearance with seat height so that makes a case for buying a tall bike and having it lowered to fit(you'll end up with the same clearance after). The XT225 had very very impressive...

    Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

Fair enough. I didn't mean to piss in anyone's shoes or anything. Also in the context of "they don't make them like they used to" I really like my LR3 and would put it up against a D1 on the trail. I really like the D1 too just trying to say it's not all doom and gloom.

    Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

I complained from the point of view from someone who has wanted a D2 for a long tim.e but has been scared away based on real world "shopping" and coming across enough examples of engines trouble/head gasket issues to scare me away from the hassle. I saw mostly 50/50 sample of running great...

2017: the year of the lightweight ADV motorcycle

Good idea lets fix it. Some of mine. Dont ride a big bike with small bikes or this may happen lol. If you're not fallin you're not riding. As to the subject of lightweight adv bikes(loose term) I've got real world owner feedback to give on the XT225,CRF230L, CRF250L, XR650L, and...

    Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

I dunno about that. The platform is an absolute classic but the engines :(. The RX7 is remembered but few love them because the engines don't last. Most enthusiast cars have issues but needing a heart transplant is a big one.

2017: the year of the lightweight ADV motorcycle

You can make a Dual sport bike an adventure bike and with enough welding and chopping an adventure bike into a dual sport. Labels cloud everything on this forum from dual sport to overland vehicle.. I have a 250L a V-strom 1000 and a KLR650. They all cross over into each others domain enough...

What are your Overland equipment must haves?

Food and a place to sleep :) I like overlanding stuff but have only slept in the truck a handful of times. I just spend alot of time in the woods exploring and come home to my bed afterwards or to a hotel because wife.

LR3 Air to Coil conversion.....one year later.

I understand being worn down by LR3 repairs(I've only had little ones but still) but I love the air suspension.. Hope I never have to do this.

FZJ80 Daily Driver Overland Rig. Build Thread.

Custom stuff is the American way.. I agree though. I also think the obsession with protection has gotten out of control. sure you can ram trees(you wont) and put the weight of your truck on a rock(you wont) but you've added 1000lbs to it(most 4x4's are already slow). Roof racks are more Yeti...
