MB truck owners in North America - is it worth it?

This ought to be the sign off document for any major overland vehicle purchase.

Southern route from San Diego to Texas for the eclipse

+1 on avoiding the interstates. I just drove AZ to MI through TX,AR, and up to IL. Their interstates are better than some, but much worse than just a few years ago. Hit the secondary roads, slow down, and enjoy the view.

Unicorn on the Ocean - 1120AF Coming to Canada

The 1996 Turkish manual at section 4.2 and 4.3 gives drilling dimensions too. They seem more concerned about hole placement than welding type or quality. I wonder if the bolt in angle plates are doing the real work.

Unicorn on the Ocean - 1120AF Coming to Canada

The 500 units on each side is interesting. 500mm is almost 20 inches on either side of the frame filler. That makes the scale look funny. Like the frame is 24 inches deep.

Unicorn on the Ocean - 1120AF Coming to Canada

Watch this video where the math and science of frame splicing comes up full force. Dry to start. Watch it all. Please post a link to how Mercedes says how to do it. Thx.

Portable Propane water heater inside RV

And then still accept the fact that you're sleeping in a tinderbox and just get on with living. Sheesh. Better odds of an accident within 5 miles of home than CO poisoning and death while snoozing in the bush.

Portable Propane water heater inside RV

Hmm. 624÷320,000,000=?% Do up your seat belts, put down the phone, and live. CO death paranoia is low on my priority list. Steering clear of the impaired, stupid, and phone users is the real priority.

    72 IH + ‘85 Alaskan = Questionable Judgment...

Unloaded you'll probably start in 2nd anyway. Still gonna be neat going to 4th then slam forward for 5th/OD.

    Kitchen placement

I put mine on the driver's side. The entry door would have landed right in the middle of the 5' countertop. Only so many combinations to get 5' counter and 7' bed in a 14' box. I agree with the second poster. Build it for your convenience only. Saving a few feet of tubing and living with...

    Propane Tank Heater Blankets?

I own two modern trailers and they use single stage regulators. Their tanks will frost. My expedition truck uses a 2 stage regulator and I've never seen frosting on its tank. The regulator does cool considerably, but the total output of vapor stays constant. 2 stages will help reduce the...

    Propane Tank Heater Blankets?

Use 2 stage regulators. The pressure drop inside the tank is much lower leading to less cooling effect on the liquid propane which limits the amount of vapor produced above the liquid. Propane actually gets kind of gelled as it cools.

    93 E250 Sportsmobile build/4x4

The Snap On unit I used would let you monitor the engine while driving it. I my case it was a bad O² sensor. That would jump out with an obd2 tester today, but not so easy in obd1 days.

    3way portable fridge

I first saw these portable propane 3 way chest freezers when I worked in the bush in the 1980s. I bought my first used Unique freezer in 2011. It was already 10 years old. It was built in South Africa. They used butane fired refrigeration in remote areas for years. Obviously solar has changed...

Using Standard RV Door In Composite Camper?

I bought a used door at an RV wrecker for my NON composite walled box. $100. It's lined with white styrofoam and has a small window and comes with an integral screen door. Rubber perimeter seal. Handle and keyed deadbolt. How air tight do you need it to be? Any door is going to leak. I ask...
