Need advice on new Quad-Band unit

I've had a Yeasu 8900 in my Jeep for just over a year now, and really love the radio. For the antenna, I went with a Quad Band antenna and mount from Diamond. But I think that frdmskr has the best option, running 2 antennas, as it's very hard to dial in all 4 bands. I finally just dialed mine...

    2M Recommendations For Beginners Please!

I'm running the Yeasu FT 8900 in my TJ, (quadband- 70cm/2M/6M/10M fm) with a Diamond mount and Quad band antenna. The Yeasu 8800 is a dual band, and (as mentioned above) has a detachable face. I feel the dual band is worth it, in my area we use both quite a bit.

Sorry to hear that. Looks like I'll be spending less time here on ExPo, and more on 'Other Forums' The sad part with that, is on 99% of those forums, you're 'Preaching to the Choir' (Ooops, religious reference, might get banned) Where with the diversity on this forum, real, healthy, civil...

I agree. While the particular topic that started the desire for a "Jungle" forum, so to speak, is one that is exclusive to the United States, I'm still interested in discussing and/or debating (not arguing) said topic with anyone, from anywhere. I don't understand the political climate of...

    Post your sleeping set ups!

Off Roader: That looks great! Also appears to have more head room than my XJ did with a platform. I was able to squeek out 7' diagonally in the XJ, I think 6' is plenty for most folks.

I like the idea! I also like the 'Jungle' for a header! :coffeedrink: If it's unde the "New Posts" tab, that only shows you 2 things. 1: The title of the thread 2: the area of the thread, ie: Expedition Trailers, Jeep, or 'Jungle' If it says 'Jungle', simply do not open that thread...

How do you lace your hikers?

Yep, from the outside in and left over right. Been doing it that way since boot camp. And that was a loooong time ago! :snorkle:

    Manifold Cooking

I tested the 'can cooker' in my TJ last week. In the TJ, it's on the inner fender, whereas my CJ, it's bolted to a headbolt, right above the exhuast manifold. In the TJ, it doesn't work to well when the outside temps are around 15* F :snorkel: My can of chili was 'slightly warm' after an 80...

    Bottle jack considerations

My dad and I both keep a 2 ton bottle jack in our 3/4T Dodges, just for tire changes. You're only lifting one corner of the rig when changing a tire, so a 4K pound jack is fine for most vehicles. Like mentioned, buy a quality made one, I have seen cheaper ones leak oil when stored on their...

Where do you put what when you pack your rig for a trip?

I built a platform for my XJ, under it I kept my spare parts, recovery stuff, and tools. The heavy stuff I didn't want flying around in case of a roll/accident. As the others, the stuff that doesn't get used often, goes in the hardest to get to places. If you need to replace an axle shaft...

question regarding servicing bearings on m416a trailer

depends what you mean by 'wear'. You can use some emery cloth, but go light. As long as the bearing race(s) fits snug, and not sloppy, the spindle is OK.

question regarding servicing bearings on m416a trailer

I don't fill it, I do just like 'Verkstad', and stuff a little extra inside the hub, between the bearings. On my CJ however, I did drill and tap the hubs for zerk fittings, and once I have packed the bearings, reassmbled the hub (but before I install the lock out*) I fill the center with...

What did you do to your Expo Jeep today?

Changed oil and filter, cleaned air filter. Went to replace the short side front axle shaft I broke last Sat, and discovered that the lower ball joint is shot. Just replaced it last Feb, with a NAPA premium.:snorkel:

    Required Parts for Expedition Jk

I don't carry a spare pitman arm, as the chances of breaking one are slim (hit a big rock, just right, real hard, then maybe) But for sure spare TRE's (Tie Rod Ends) and spare u-joints and axle joints. Takes a while, and you will learn what the weak points of your vehicle will be. It's hard...

    A little different: 2012 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O.

That Sportsman will serve you well! I have a '94 Sportsman 400, and it's still going strong. But the ride of the newer ones is sooo sweet! Had a chance to drive my mother in laws Sportsman (2010 or '11 model) and was amazed at how smooth it is! Extremely capable stock, I don't even see a...

And that is not always a good thing! Even when we all know the intentions were good. Very glad it was a happy outcome! Congrats to you and the crew, and to everyone who does SAR work! Having a Rescue is always better than having a Recovery.

    Random Snow Rig Pics

Heading out in an hour to do some snow wheeling.....just hoping there is some snow! Here by the big lake (Lake Superior) we only have about 3-4" on the ground. Heading north east 2 hours (Grand Rapids, MN) and hoping the boys there have some snow! Pics upon return of trip.
