I'm running the Yeasu FT 8900 in my TJ, (quadband- 70cm/2M/6M/10M fm) with a Diamond mount and Quad band antenna. The Yeasu 8800 is a dual band, and (as mentioned above) has a detachable face. I feel the dual band is worth it, in my area we use both quite a bit.

depends what you mean by 'wear'. You can use some emery cloth, but go light. As long as the bearing race(s) fits snug, and not sloppy, the spindle is OK.
