    Long trip question...

Rex, One note about the throttle lock: If you are getting sleepy at all stop using it until you stop for a break. The constant rpms make you more tired, and if you do doze off it would be better for the bike to begin slowing down a bit (due to your wrist relaxing) which might wake you up a...

    While i was sleeping....

I don't know how the laws work where you are, but in NJ I have had two vehicles totaled due to the actions of others. In both cases I was able to negotiate at least 25% more than the insurance company's first offer and still keep the vehicles with intact, non-salvage titles. The key to the...

    Weatherproofing truck tailgate and cap

Someone around here had set up a filtered blower to create positive pressure inside his truck cap to keep dust/water out. I just don't remember who. He had a website about his truck build and I think it was also about where he went with it. The truck, that is...

So you are planning to have a tow bar installed and ready IN CASE the truck dies, NOT planning to tow it all the way, right? Either way, you are going to get some ribbing from the Jeep and Rover guys :jump:

I don't know the pace you are keeping on the highway, but slowing down helps both fuel and oil consumption. It can be less fatiguing too. Maybe drive 55-60 MPH? You can stop every two hours to add gas and oil and do some exercises to stay alert. (Jumping jacks help me, YMMV) While I agree that...

    changing lug patern need help

If you note the bearing numbers and call some trailer axle suppliers (Dexter Axle, ABC Trailer Parts, Franklin Trailers, etc.) they may be able to sell you "loaded hubs" with new bearings, seals, retainers, etc. and send them to your door. www.abctrailerparts.com www.dexteraxle.com...

    Tacoma Questions

Has it been in to the dealer for the "frame rust" recall? There was a ball joint recall too. Was the water pump replaced when the timing belt was done? The rear frames sometimes get bent if the truck is overloaded, tows too much weight, or is tied down (on a trailer) too tightly. Some trucks...

Looking for little "ticket holder" for the windshield (plastic clip thing...)

All the ones I found were white (opaque) on the sticky side...the clear on both sides that you found would work though!

    4cyl or 6cyl

Hey Trump, did you regear for your 285's? I see the ARBs, but I'm wondering what gears you have and if you would stick with the same ones again. Assuming you stuck with the 2.7, of course. To the OP: The $20,000 budget sounds like a great starting point as long as you plan on keeping...

    4cyl or 6cyl

Correction...you all should read my entire post before getting on the "bash wagon". :coffee: Please check your ADD at the door. The first paragraph was tongue-in-cheek, and I followed with nothing but praise for the 2.7. :sombrero: :victory:

I agree, if you are in Colorado with big mountains, the V6. In Maryland and our "little" east coast hills, either will work for you.

    4cyl or 6cyl

Well, the 4cyl Tacoma motor (2.7 L) is junk. My ex has ours, and after only 130,000 miles it already has thrown it's first CEL code. #3 coil failed. Can you imagine??? Only 130K and already falling apart? Jeez. Seriously, the above is true. The truck has been under my care since 2005 and...

    Trouble Shooting Help

IIRC, there are small fuel screens in the injectors on that vintage TBI. Might be worth a look. If there are two injectors, are they "spraying" evenly under load? Is the timing advancing/retarding as it should? I don't remember how the HEI in that vintage operates, but a stuck vacuum advance...
