    Heater hoses

Don't know what year your vehicle is but my 2000 model year Montero was easily obtained at the dealer. I think I paid less than 20 buck for each individual hose. This was 2 months ago...

4WD Not Dis-Engaging. Is it Safe to Drive on Hard Surfaces?

If you are referencing me, then I indicated earlier that I had no further problems with it going into and out of 4WD the more I exercised it. Furthermore, I have divested myself of the vehicle entirely as I have sold it to someone locally who can appreciate it for what it is and I have freed up...

Have all your new parts on the bench, before you start

I'm having a difficult time with what your shop is telling you. I just rebuilt, from the ground up a 2000 Montero engine and I had NO trouble sourcing any of the parts - and the parts I couldn't get from aftermarket, I was able to get them from Mitsubishi within 2-3 days. I don't know who you're...

4WD Not Dis-Engaging. Is it Safe to Drive on Hard Surfaces?

Interesting development this afternoon. After arriving home from work, I jumped in the Montero and decided to try and see if I could drive the vehicle in reverse to clear the issue. To my surprise, when I started the vehicle, the flashing lights had ceased! So, I drove it around for awhile in...

4WD Not Dis-Engaging. Is it Safe to Drive on Hard Surfaces?

Any way to verify this? Such as lifting the front end off the ground and seeing if the front wheels rotate independent of each other and the driveshaft is not turning???

4WD Not Dis-Engaging. Is it Safe to Drive on Hard Surfaces?

Yeah, that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. Requires removing front seats and contorting myself around the console. Can't stress my neck at this point in time. As long as I can drive it with the lights blinking and not cause any driveline issues, than I'm good for the time being. I have the...

4WD Not Dis-Engaging. Is it Safe to Drive on Hard Surfaces?

Is there anyway to quickly identify whether this is the problem or not? I would be interested in determining whether this is the culprit or not as it wouldn't require me to crawl under the vehicle.

4WD Not Dis-Engaging. Is it Safe to Drive on Hard Surfaces?

Thanks for the help Michael. FYI, all the tires are the same, so this rules that particular concern out for the moment. I did see that link a few days ago and investigated it, but as I mentioned earlier, I am not quite well enough to go poking my head under the vehicle at this juncture. Good to...

4WD Not Dis-Engaging. Is it Safe to Drive on Hard Surfaces?

I only tried 4H only. The Montero is a 2000 Endeavor. I'll try driving it around and maybe backing up some more. Last thing I want to do is damage the drivetrain.

4WD Not Dis-Engaging. Is it Safe to Drive on Hard Surfaces?

After the engine rebuild, I put 60 miles on the Montero. 1st time I have really driven it since buying it a year ago. Yes, its actually taking me this long to put it back together... So, anyway... I'm feeling pretty good about the Montero all day Saturday. We ran a bunch of errands and I'm...

Anyone looking for a very clean set of 17" Gen 3 Montero wheels?

Thanks. Maybe that is why I couldn't locate any pictures then...

    Am I crazy?

I don't know anything about the 1st generation, but if its clean and a good price, go ahead and get it and keep your Nissan as a backup. 1st generation Montys are getting hard to find and I would pick one up just to have it. I have a Gen 2.5, which has more power, but there is nothing like the...

    3G Monty Coolant From Tailpipe

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Elected to rebuild the entire engine with a .020 overbore. Expect to drop $1K for machine work and parts - with you doing the dis-assembly & assembly. Mine had 250K on the engine. If yours is significantly less miles, then you might get by with new head...

    Soon to be Monty Owner

Mine is a 2000. I paid $1900 for it with a blown head gasket, but the body and interior was decent as well as the rest of the drivetrain and it had a boat load of maintenance records. It did have high miles, 250K and around here, Monteros are extremely rare (excluding Sports). I've already got...

95 SR Timing Belt/Front Camshaft Oil seal questions

When you get ready to do the timing belt, contact me and I'll let you borrow the special tool (similar to MD998767) or adjusting the tension on the belt prior to tightening the bolt for the eccentric on the tensioner pulley. You will need to use 2 torque wrenches, though. I had to locate an inch...

It will be interesting to see how much money you have to throw at it to get it into decent shape. I suspect you will invest much more than your initial vehicle cost. I know I have and I'm still not done..

95 SR Timing Belt/Front Camshaft Oil seal questions

Agree on using OEM parts. Not much more expensive than the alternative and you know it fits right the 1st time. Ditto on the crankshaft bolt and washer too!
