Heavy Duty Winch Recommendations - Please!

Husky 12 is a great winch but very SLOOOWWWW......and not made any longer (haven't been for a while now). I'd be leery of an electric winch that has a heavier capacity than 10-12K. If I needed one in the 16K range I'd be looking at a PTO (if your vehicle has the ability to power one) or a...

    Leather Holster manufacturers

Ask about holsters on any gun focused page and you're bound to get lots of good, bad and biased info. What custom, craft made type holsters are you using? What do you like or dislike about the product or maker? There are the usual commercial brands like Alien Gear, Blackhawk, Galco etc. Not...

    This truck is unbelievable good

I love classic vehicles, and I'm a huge series rover maniac. I don't care for the new LR product. But LR traction control is bar none the best out there. My Tacoma TRD Offroad is nice, does well but it still feels clunky and archaic compared to the newer LR products. I just can't get past the...

    price gouging.

I just paid just under $1 per round for 9mm yesterday....It was there, I wanted it. Sorry, needed it. Up until yesterday I'd paid $.60 per. It is more available but prices are still sky high, if not higher than it was 2-3 months ago. Display cases have a better selection as well. Again, a...

    Winch fairlead for synthetic cable

Don't over think it, use what you like. Either style works fine. I've had the same synthetic line for better part of 18 years now with minimal maintenance. Been exposed to to the weather, sun, dirt etc. Still reliable. I prefer a hawse over traditional roller because they are simple, no...

    Winch turns one way only

These are simple 12V systems. Get a diagram and test light or, bettre yet, a meter, check power to the switch, power from the switch to solenoid, check the solenoid contacts, check solenoid to motor. Be methodical and it'll become obvious where the issue is. With that said, I once had a...

    Types of tire chains?

I've use these on my rover, TIRE CHAINS-Diamond-installation-diamond chains, Video Very similar to the rud product. Easy to put on, they stay on fairly well. I use ladder style V-bar on my tractor. Nearly unstoppable but chew up everything and I don't recommend them for a passenger...

    Front Mechanical Locker Experiences?

Ahh, the age old locker debate. Filled with facts, myths, opinions passed as opinions and opinions passed as fact. Almost as good as the winch or motor oil debates. If you had lincolns then you'll know 99% of what to expect. The other 1% is the quirks of the unit unlocking and relocking on...

    Using shackles made in China?

Do you have data to support this? Metallurgy is a pretty exact science so there should be numbers to support. Otherwise this is just "China bad, USA good".

    Old Warn XD9000 Rebuild

Drum bushings are inexpensive, replace them while it's apart. Check the the bushing in the end of the gearbox housing. They can become oblong if it's lived a hard life. Gaskets are cheap, in fact all these don't add up to much $$. Have them on hand, service it, look at it in another 15-20 years.

    Battery Jumper cable recommendations?

30 years of driving with the $12 cables from K-mart when I first got my license. They have never let me down. There really isn't much to go wrong with jumper cables. Keep them in a dry area, don't pile stuff on top of them.

Where to get a drum heat guard for syn. cable. ?

Agree with Max. No issue for years with mine. I'm guessing for the 99% that's the case. McMasterCarr, MSC, Grainger all carry different sleeves for hydraulic lines. Perfect for this if you do want something on the drum.

    How To: Hi-Lift Jack Rebuild

Funny, I was at TSC today and noticed they carry the Reese farm jack rebuild kits and wondered if they would fit a hi-lift. But at less than $6 not sure if I'd WANT to use it. As far as the shear bolt goes (notice hi-lift doesn't call it a shear pin) I doubt it's a standard bolt. Most likely...

    How To: Hi-Lift Jack Rebuild

That jack looks barely used and those pins don't look bad. Perhaps the pictures don't do them justice though. Would be helpful to provide different examples of what to look for when deciding to replace parts or not. However, you're how-to could be used to help someone break it down just for...
