Fs: King 650lb Springs for GX470, Taco, T4R

I run these same 3"x14"x 650 lb coils on 2.5" FOX IFP shocks on my Tacoma. It's a fine option for carrying more front weight than FOX intended. No issues with the coils hitting their binding (e.g. their block length) before you run into stock bump stops or would worst case bottom the shocks...

Hilux-frame compared to Land Cruiser 200/Ranger

Be sure to consider frame wall thickness as well as other dimensions when comparing various trucks in markets. For example the Tacoma and Hilux have historically derived from a similar platform but in some markets a Hilux will get a 3,000 kg GVWR. That's around 6,600 lbs. In the U.S. that...

    Bike to Base Camp Communications

How far do you intend to ride from base camp? If don't plan to be more than a few miles dead reckoning from each other satellite comm isn't really necessary and regular two-way radios are free air time. Although an InReach two-way isn't nearly as costly as sat phones so it could work just for...

ARB Prado 120 bull bar on GX470... Kinda fits...

I don't know if they do for all models but it seems that Australian companies crash test bullbars for vehicles they get there. It's not as simple as just relying on the inertial sensors to trigger on force, there's deployment timing that has to be proven. If all you do is bolt on a completely...

Anyone connect the vehicle GPS antenna to an iPad??

Cellular capable iPads have GPS built-in while Wi-Fi only ones don't. The Wi-Fi ones can locate themselves but they aren't using GPS. For years Google was reading access point SSIDs and MAC addresses and mapping them into a location database as they drove around taking Street View pictures...

Anyone connect the vehicle GPS antenna to iPad??

The shark fin is almost certainly just an antenna and very likely GPS is only one of several antennas in it as well as AM/FM, cell data modem, etc). The GPS receiver (e.g. the electronics doing the "decoding" part) is usually in the device it's feeding, behind the dash or elsewhere. Point...

Dometic PLB40 - Short circuit protection was triggered.

That site is from 2021 and mentions USB-C, which implies it might be a RPi4. The 4B was released summer of 2019 and needs 3A to meet all specs, but 2.5A is the minimum as long as the USB peripherals do not exceed 500mA.

Dometic PLB40 - Short circuit protection was triggered.

Which Raspberry Pi are you using? The RPi3 needed 2.4A (12.5W) from it's 5V. The RPi4 and 5 are 3A and 5A. The Dometic appears to give you 2.4A per port and total of 4.2A, so you're likely right at the spec limit. It'll depend, too, what you might have the RPi doing and plugged into it.

How is highway driving with a 2024 4runner TRD Off-Road

So you're saying... An engine that is rated 365 HP@5000 RPM and torque of 420 ft-lb@2500 RPM has more power than one rated 236 HP @ 5200 RPM and 270 ft-lb @ 4000 RPM? An engine that has forced induction continues to make more power at higher elevation? Is water still wet, too? I'll go on a...

How is highway driving with a 2024 4runner TRD Off-Road

A 2014 Grand Cherokee is unibody independent suspension front and rear, right? I'd think the 4Runner will be more obviously a truck. Not bad for a truck but is going to be obviously less highway friendly. The GX is a luxury truck but still a body-on-frame, solid rear axle truck like the...

I'm looking for new shocks for my 2002 Tacoma

Yeah, good point, that's true. The TRD OR would have Bilstein. Don't remember the model number, 4600 may very well be right. I didn't see mention that it was a TRD truck so I did make an assumption. Also the TRD would have progressive springs which the base and SR5 would not. It's not...

I'm looking for new shocks for my 2002 Tacoma

Another option for a totally stock truck are Tokico (Hitachi) or KYB, those are the OEMs Toyota used when the truck was new. They'll ride a little softer than Bilstein. I'd prefer Tokico slightly but KYB is easier to find...

Are there no side by sides discussed here?

It's too little, too late. Can't blame SxS completely, plenty of jack asses in 4WD, on dirt bikes, MTBs and foot even before the proliferation of them. Think it's fair to say the damage and conflict increased significantly in the past 10 years or so, though, and they are a major part of it...

Looks like EV sales are actually on the rise

Taken at face value the premise is "There's just one little problem: Last year, U.S. sales of EVs were the highest ever, both in sheer numbers and as a percentage of the overall new-car market. Global sales: ditto. The EV Sales Tracker from EVadoption estimates nearly 1.2 million...

    EV acceptance is peaking

You know, funny. I was just reading about that. Technically when you teleport you die and are reborn in a new place. That seems a little bit worrying. https://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/13437/in-star-trek-does-the-original-die-in-teleportation Not sure how I stumbled on that. I was...

    EV acceptance is peaking

We can't figure out how we got to the Moon or how to even keep doors on aircraft. No way I'd strap on a jet pack until we can figure out how to keep doing stuff we could do 60 years ago just fine. Driving in winter? Poppycock. Why would one wish to take off the bunny slippers to go to work?

What doesn’t need to get switched in a D/C system

As @Dave in AZ says, don't be scared of anything. Switching the hot (positive) or return (negative) side makes no difference in the circuit function electrically. You interrupt the flow of current just the same either way, the battery and load don't know the difference. Technically a fuse...

    EV acceptance is peaking

The technology of EVs means that people in Chicago and Denver now need to understand what defines "extreme" cold to their cars. With liquid fuels "extreme" cold was more for oil workers in Alaska to deal with. There's a learning curve and to some extent why electric vehicles didn't catch on...

What doesn’t need to get switched in a D/C system

There are reasons and even advantages (in the case of electronic switches it's basically mandatory to do low side practically) to switching the returns (negative) on loads but be aware that there is a safety aspect. When you break the return side of a circuit what is left is a hot side just...

Question on portable power station "physical" storage when not in use?

There's a lot of misnomers and confusion when people talk lithium. LiFePO4 (and lead-acid FWIW) is generally pretty safe and stable. You have to make an effort to cause an issue. Lithium-ions are the ones that you have to watch that can more easily go into thermal runaway. So it's...
