10th Generation F-150 Overland build (The Craptor)

Very nice! Yankee Hill was the first trail I went 4wheeling on. But it was like February and the trail was about 2.5’ deep in snow. It didn’t go well for my Explorer back when it was pretty stock. I parked it and continued on riding with other people. Now I’d be leading the way up the trail...

Newbie looking for first rig (Rig acquired, now it's a build thread!)

Correct. But in your initial post, you posted a Tahoe. So if you can squeeze 8 people in a Tahoe you can squeeze 8 people in an Expedition. If you hop in over to Ford, you can put all that “transmission rebuild” talk behind you. Don’t you think there’s something wrong with looking to purchase...

If you take 8 people camping in a Tahoe without a trailer, you MUST post pictures! Like I’ve said, I’ve pretty well packed a similarly sized Expedition with only 2 people.

Why mount it on the driver side? With the driver and fuel tank on that side, that side of the vehicle is not light. I do like the idea of the tool box, but I carry everything I need in a tool roll. And then the tool roll goes in my favorite piece of gear: my drawers.

What size trailer are you going to tow behind it?

Get the Tahoe. But with 6 kids, aren’t you going to need 2 of them? Taking 8 people camping in a Tahoe..... I filled my Expedition with only 2 people.

    Thinking about Trailbalzer

The Expedition went IRS in 2003 (or so). And is still IRS. Able to tow a metric butt load. I’m not sure how similar the Expedition IRS is to the Explorer IRS. I have a 2014 Expedition and have replaced the struts on it. Sure it’s WAY more involved than replacing shocks on a solid rear, but it...

When a non-Raptor installs a Raptor grill, they called them FRaptors (Fake Raptors).

Agree. You need experience first. Not a bumper.

    2012 F150 Mild Build

I worked at a Ford dealership back in college during the summer. The dealership had some rather large speed bumps on the access road between the main lot and the storage lot out back. This was back in the late 90s. An brand new Explorer at 30 mph over those bumps was pretty smooth too. Never...

    Ford Expedition overland build?

No affiliation: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcrL9Nb4HixqcXANSGF6rOg Has a 4th gen Expedition. I’m personally not a fan of them.

10th Generation F-150 Overland build (The Craptor)

I ran tailgunner on a couple trips with the local overland group in my 1st gen Expedition. The 4runners and Jeeps struggled in this one section of trail we were doing- I actually had to pull the Jeep in front of me backwards off whatever he was stuck on. I got through everything without issue...

    2012 F150 Mild Build

Thanks! The way you said it in the first post, I thought they were LEDs taken from an F150. Thanks for pointing out that it’s a website named that. I’ve got a 2014 Expedition that I’m sure there is plenty of cross compatibility.

    7.3 question

Ssssshhhhhhhh...... don’t tell the 4r100 that was in my Expedition. It had 263k on it when I sold it. OEM transmission. I would recommend getting the 6.0l transmission cooler though. It’s gigantic.

Nice and simple. I like it. what’s the info on the LED headlights?

Why are other full size SUV's not used in overlanding/offroading as often as Forerunner/Landcruiser?

Has 250k miles on it. My sloppy Ford 9.75 rear axle had 263k miles on it when I sold it. Original bearings. And I know the guy that bought it. Probably has 275k miles on it now. Bearings are still original. They fall right out. Apparently after they’ve gone the equivalent distance to the moon...
