Falken Wildpeak AT/3W - anyone running them? Opinions?

Falken now offers its A/TW3 in a 12ply F rating. E has been fine for my 10,500lb van but curious if anyone has run and F and can compare to an E with regard to a harsher ride.

    6.0 EGR......Bulletproof or Delete?

Moderately tuned here. 400HP or so. 40k on EGR delete and other upgrades. 130k overall. Mileage is 14-18mpg. Compare that to the 9 or 10 mpg with a V10. Personally, I love the sound and feel of the 6.0 psd but diesels are not for everyone. Head gaskets are not really an issue on the vans...

    lsd on E150 van

You need to find out what axle you have but being an E150 it's probably a Dana60 semi-floater. I'm not entirely sure but it's probably 35 spline and you could stick an Eaton Trutrac in there rather than the limited slip from Ford.

    Another two Sportsmobile design failures.

There's nothing wrong with their 4x4 system on an E350 and in fact it's top notch. It's the interior that's the issue. That said, I'm a happy camper with mine. Not much to complain about.

    SMB vs other 4wd systems

SMB included a Dynatrac Prorock80 rear axle as un upgrade. Otherwise, most of the vans went out the door with a D60 semi-floater. Not ideal for a 10,000lb van. I don't think there is anything proprietary about how SMB is (was) doing the front end. Hubs are Warn and bearings are Timken...

    Another two Sportsmobile design failures.

Ha, I've heard that saying applied to boatmen. Those are those who have flipped and those who will. I flipped in Lava Falls on my 77th Grand Canyon river trip. I'm generally pretty happy with the construction and assembly of my 2005 sportsmobile. The use of MDF is what bothers me most but...

    Another two Sportsmobile design failures.

In defense of Aluminess the failures of the rear bumper are at least partly the result of overloading the swing arms. It's a 150lb limit and folks with generaters, rotopax, water jugs, etc can load way more than that. Just a 35" wheel can be 80lb. I've got 8 years on my bumper with 0 issues.

    Bilstein 7100 valving?

Stump, I'm not discounting what your saying but I have no issues tracking between the white lines at 80 mph. My rig is heavy so I was just wondering if I was under shocked that's all. Unladen it's fine but generally when I'm using my camper van with everything including the kitchen sink it...

    Bilstein 7100 valving?

Thanks for the info but my rig tracks straight with no death wobble. The Sportsmobile 4x4 conversion is pretty bomber and IMO on par with a Ujoint conversion. Tire wear is even. Maybe I'll try the stiffer valving and adjust from there. Tinkering and upgradeitis is half the fun.

    Bilstein 7100 valving?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have leaf springs on the front. The spring pack is thick and has a progressive rate. I have the rebuildable Bilsteins so I don't need to buy anything. Just looking for info from those that have changed their valving and experiences. Maybe pogoing isn't the right...

    Bilstein 7100 valving?

Current valving profile on my 4x4 E350 with a 4" lift is: 360/80 linear (Front) and 360/240 digressive (rear). This is what was spec'd from Deaver Spring when I upgraded to their spring package. Has anyone tried 400/100 valving? My rig feels a bit undershocked and has some pogo action...

    Light recommendations

For fogs, I replaced the Hellas in my Aluminess bumper with Baja Designs XL-R Sports. I'm also pretty stoked on the XL80s as a driving combo.

    Another two Sportsmobile design failures.

I'm not that surprised. Look at how they mounted a LED light bar on the van they had at the Overland Expo awhile back. Bolted straight into the sheet metal roof. Looked like it was already cracking.

    Another two Sportsmobile design failures.

I can't say I'm too impressed with the mdf interior either but mine is decently put together. It is what it is. There are a number of new outfits doing camper conversions but ...for a price. I wonder what SMB's margin is? It's a big enterprise, I doubt anyone is getting rich. But, since...

    Another two Sportsmobile design failures.

How long have you had your SMB? Both of these design flaws have been addressed. Well, at least the first with a re-designed aluminess bumper. Weight limit is 150lb which can quickly be exceeded if carrying a generator, etc. There are other options for mounting the awning but yeah that was a...

FarOutVan: Ford Transit 2016 DIY campervan conversion for MTB & splitboarding

Nice run down Flying Monkey! Your going to like the H trails in Sedona when you get there. But conditions are dry, dry, dry so things are a bit blown out. Bring some rain with you please. Unfortunately, dispersed camping is hard to find in Sedona but this is a helpful thread. The google link...
