New Tacoma vs Colorado vs Ranger

Yes. The little 2.3 is a party to drive. Unloaded and with a few mild performance mods it’s surprisingly fun and quick. But, load it up and MPG plummets. Same with the Taco, 3 x 4Runners, Landcruiser, and every other small rig I’ve overloaded. Haha! It’s unmistakably true that there are...

New Tacoma vs Colorado vs Ranger

Your observations mirror mine. There 100% area some situations where a full size is a bit more cumbersome. Trade offs… Regarding the Sprinter, from mild Moab trails, to rutted, steep and muddy Canadian logging trails, the Sprinter has impressed me. Mine is well armored, on 33’s with sway bar...

New Tacoma vs Colorado vs Ranger

The lure of the Ranger for me was a quicker, nimbler driving experience in a truck that’s easier to fit in tight spaces but still be able to cover highway miles efficiently and comfortably. I convinced myself that with enough organization, the smaller chassis would still be adequate. Before I...

New Tacoma vs Colorado vs Ranger

While I realize the Ranger option being discussed is in reference to the new version, I have a built ‘21 that I setup for overland then tore down. My thoughts… Owned quite a few Toyotas and still have a 1st gen Taco that I absolutely love. Newer Tacos lack payload, engine and reliability to...

    New Bronco

I have a built 2.3 Ranger on 35’s with the Ford Performance tune (fully warrantied) and it scoots. Ranger gearing is not correct for 35’s, even so, the 10spd does a pretty good job of hiding it. Fuel economy is averaging 15.1. I suspect that would jump up 1-2 mpg’s with correct gearing. The...

Quick shot of the solar panel setup. I was able to fab up mounts that allow my 175w panel to sit just below the height of the crossbars on my GFC. No drag, super clean, and allows the flexibility to use the entire width of the crossbars for other loads anytime I can stand to have the panel...

Cactus Plastic Fantastic - '21 Ranger build

I’ve been working away and should have updated pics soon. I’ve been obsessing over weight and storage efficiency so as to preserve the performance of the truck. Bed plate, light weight 8020 based storage, fridge, lights, etc going in this week. I’m hitting roadblocks on the big tank. May have...

    2022 Ford Ranger

I'm building away on a '21 Ranger. I have a build thread going but it has been ages since I've updated it. Most of the remainder of my build components have arrived or will be here shortly so the updates should resume. So far, I'm absolutely loving the truck but mine is very, very far from...

Cactus Plastic Fantastic - '21 Ranger build

I'm a fan of the color, it's an unusual shade. It looks awesome on the Bronco and Mach 1 with their aggressive stance. On the stock Ranger, it's very, um "soft" looking in person? I just doesn't work. I like it on my truck now that I've done all the modding to make it more aggressive...

Thanks guys. Truck is in the shop for a few days getting 10 mm Xpel protection. I chewed up my fancy new carbon fenders pretty good just getting the truck home (Doh!) Sliders from Shrockworks are in-bound and I have a GFB VTA diverter valve sitting on the bench to install when it's back...

Rocksea - EarthCruiser CORE Total Composites Build

Following along with great interest. We’re mountain bikers and snowboarders as well along with a bit of surfing and Moto. Currently traveling in a DIY Sprinter and have been thinking about a Core build for a while now. Will be following closely. Like many, I’ve build a variety of inside bike...

Next up is to address on-road lighting. I already have 4 Baja Designs XL Pro's up front for Offroad driving. I also have a pair of Designs Squadron fogs. But for on-road driving, the stock halogen Ranger headlights are somewhere between poor and down right dangerous. Combine that with the...

Cactus Plastic Fantastic - '21 Ranger build

Yeah, I'm waiting on Long Range America to finish up their tank for NA spec Rangers. Unfortunately, the NA spec frame is quite a bit different from the ROW frame (have confirmed this myself first hand). The final product is supposed to be around 34-36 gallons. I can't wait.

I just came out of a 1st Gen Raptor with the 6.2. I feel the same way as you. Toyota's are great from a reliability perspective but the lack of torque makes them dogs to drive, especially at highway speeds at elevation. The Ranger is a completely different beast with the torque the little...

Next stop was a quick trip over to Rigd to pickup an Ultraswing tire carrier. I went with the camp stove / cutting board platform to extend my kitchen area space.

    MPG: Ranger vs F150

Yeah, took them quite a while to get the tire size and gearing adjustment in there. Stock, the transmission tuning is incredibly, almost inconceivably poor. Lugging, weird shifting, never in the right gear. I'm pretty darn happy with the FP tune so far but haven't tried any of the other options.
