Engine running hot (2001 Gen 3 Limited)

I had the same issue with that o-ring. Replaced t-belt and everything else on the motor a little over a year ago. A couple of months ago I started noticing I was losing coolant and couldnt figure out where. Then I saw the puddle in the V. As much as I dreaded taking the top off again it wasnt...

What did you do to your Mitsubishi today?

Replaced the fan clutch(was running warm at idle) and took off the upper and lower intake to fix a coolant leak. I traced it to where the water pipe comes out of(or goes into) the water pump and runs down the V in the block. Kind of a pain, but no more leaks. Just put some grey rtv on it and let...

Engine running hot (2001 Gen 3 Limited)

I'm in the process of replacing a bad fan clutch. Out of nowhere it started overheating when sitting still. I noticed that I no longer heard the "roar" of the fan on startup or at operating temp or overheating. As mentioned make sure its bled properly. This is the first vehicle I have ever had...

O2 sensors... black connectors, grey connectors

The aftermarket has it screwed up. When you cross reference the Mitsu numbers it seems that the results are sometimes one color and sometimes another. You can either verify that you are getting a black or grey connector before ordering, order a factory Mitsu parts, or just trim the plastic tabs...

Fan clutch failing, factory temp gauge is useless.

Sitting in traffic I noticed the temp gauge at 3/4 of the way up, yikes! As long as I am moving everything is ok. Have you guys noticed the factory coolant temp gauge is useless? Mine doesnt start moving until it gets to 230, which is way past where I would want to notice it getting warm...

O2 sensors... black connectors, grey connectors

(Regarding an 02 full size Montero) I didnt see that this have ever been brought up in discussions of o2 sensors. Most everyone mentions that all 4 are the same part number and are interchangeable, which is true to an extent. Say, you track down a bad upstream drivers side O2, and you order one...

Front a/c cold, rear a/c not

Solved. Refrigerant was low. I ran it by my only trusted mechanic, told him what was going on. Basically it had enough in it for the front to work but not the rear. Go figure. I honestly dont know how the front could work but not the rear considering they are sharing the same refrigerant, but...

Front a/c cold, rear a/c not

The only thing I can think of on mine is maybe the the rear expansion valve. Btw I sourced the whole unit from MS Recycling out of CA for $175. That's for everything hanging underneath....heater core, ac condenser, the whole thing. I highly recommend MS for any of you guys looking for parts...

Front a/c cold, rear a/c not

Well it doesnt matter now, I had to run the spare due to a right rear flat. Eveything looked pristine on the spare, no cracks, inflated properly, etc. A couple days later it delaminated at 45 mph, ripping out the rear heat/ac unit, totaling the Montero. All because these damn things are so hard...

Front a/c cold, rear a/c not

Best I can figure out is possibly a bad rear expansion valve. Maybe it's not opening and letting any refrigerant thru.

Front a/c cold, rear a/c not

Sorry, it's an 2002 Limited(see profile pic) It just makes no sense that there is ambient air blowing out the roof vents. Blower is working, flapper is working, no blockage anywhere. The rear is tied into the same lines as the front as far as I can tell. That would be the only reason I can think...

Front a/c cold, rear a/c not

I'm pretty sure my rear a/c worked last summer. This year it is blowing out the roof vents, but the air is ambient. The front air is cold. So the the flapper or whatever is in the back works, as when you turn it to heat it blows out the floor. So...I have airflow and the front works. What gives...

Replacing Front Wheel Bearings on Gen III

Just did my left front. Much thanks for this writeup. I just wanted to chime in regarding getting the bearing out of the spindle. I couldnt budge it myself. Took it to the local mechanic, 30 ton press didnt budge it. Had to cut it out. Just be prepared for the delay of not being able to get it...

Gen 3 Timing Belt Failure Modes?

Yet in 2002 they have 200 HP. That's me biggest gripe, this thing is gutless. That and the glitchy Super-Select 4wd system.
