Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

All that said I have never seen this kind of destruction before. Not sure if it is a design or loading issue. Pretty sure it has nothing to do with driving. In the !960s, 70s, 80s.... we drove just as hard and stupid as today yet I never saw frames bend like this. The campers today are stupidly...

Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

The entire truck and camper porpoise which creates the stress on the frame between the cab and box. The cab adds integrity to the front half, the box adds integrity to the back half, but there is only the frame with no "body on frame" integrity added between the body/box. Kind of like opening a...

Frame Strength, Who to Believe! The RV Sales Guy or the New Truck Dealer? Maybe Neither?

THIS ^^^ quite apart from the fact no sales guy is going to tell you it cannot be done unless the answer is obvious, the spec sheets for everything are buried so doing yer own homework is impossible. With that said when I see these rigs my mind goes.....

    Gladiator - Good/Bad?

Best post on this thread, focuses on what we should focus on, getting out of the truck to see how wonderful the back country is. Once you put feet on the ground who cares what you drove to get there. What a gorgeous bridge. Someone should put on a new deck.

    Camper transfer?

Number One. Calm weather and a flat solid surface. Think WalMart parking lot. Number Two. The rule of backing up..... Position, Position, Position, you want to be lined up PERFECTLY before reversing and you want to pull straight out when off loading. Get the wheels straight before lifting...

Will we be seeing truck prices come down in the near future?

This ^^^ says it all. And if we all do this car lots will be full of unsold inventory. The easy money of the past 20 years, sub prime fiasco included is finally catching up. It was unsustainable 14 years ago. The bail outs in 2009, COVID income subsidies and stimulus cheques today have just...

Will we be seeing truck prices come down in the near future?

Maybe, a massive recession would do it but if that hits even a 50% price drop might not be affordable. You say affordable rigs..... they might only be affordable if you have cash.... and you might want to hold onto the cash as basic necessities rise in price.

What's the weirdest thing you've seen on another vehicle?

It would be cool to discover the purpose. It might be used to recover a surf boat at the beach. It might be used way more often than the 16K synthetic winch on the duramax diesel dually with an RTT....

    Take it all with you.

At $150,000 in 1974, a Camelot Cruiser would set you back $905,000 in today’s money, according to the U.S. inflation calculator. And according to the U.S. Census, the average take-home pay for an American in 1974 was $16,070.

Whoops! Out of Juice? ? Call AAA! ?

Charging options are bound to increase exponentially over the next 10 years as will range. Some of the experiments in Europe seem almost sci fi. And China has more electric cars than anywhere with a billion people to drive the industry.

The Bushbaby - Custom Offroad Trailer

An other way to think of it.... weigh the trailer, set the axle so 10-15% of thebtotal is on the hitch.... To do that you might need to build it, load it, scale it, then place and weld on the axle mounts.

The Bushbaby - Custom Offroad Trailer

60/40 is for uniform loading but it actually refers to weight distribution. Calculate the load and center the axle so 60% is ahead of the axle 40% is behind the axle. Regardless of the tongue length. Calculate based on the full load including the storage box weight. 60/40 refers to pounds, not...

Overland Vehicle for 5 + Dog

VAN all the way. I think an AWD Chevy is the best buy period. Family of 5 plus a dog and towing a trailer says "technical terrain" in Utah is not a reality. The 20' trailer will keep you off anything technical. Otherwise I'd say get a JT/JKU/JLU but you might need to triple the budget...
