OK, I placed the order for tires today. Five BFG 285/75R16, the version with the "E" load rating. $187 each at Costco with a $15 per tire coupon and that includes mounting and balancing and road hazard. I couldn't find them cheaper anywhere else. Should be in next week, just in time to receive...

I've always used seat organizers to hold stuff like binocs, extra film (in the days before digital), batteries, maps, two-way radios, etc...I'm constantly trying to pair down and consolidate gear, and be very organized. There's nothing worse than being on a long stretch of lonely highway at dusk...

Brief update: currently waiting on the lug nuts, which of course also had to be specially ordered. I went ahead and ordered extras, along with a couple of spare lugs for long trips.

Kept the trailer and will convert to use with the Watermelon. I confess I'm not a huge fan of the IFS, but after giving it some thought, I don't think I'll do an SAS conversion on the 'Melon. I'm not going to do a lot of hard wheeling with it, and the cost/complexity I'd introduce into the...

From the units I've seen, I'm convinced they are not re-branded South African products. They seem fine for the price, but they're not in the same "lekker" level as the Eezi-Awns, for example.

Land Cruiser city! Actually, a good mix of solid overland platforms. I am so jealous, I wish I had the time to do a trip like that....someday!

And just for the heck of it, here's a couple of shots of my little expedition trailer, in it's latest iteration.

Here are a couple of shots of the Land Cruiser, prior to any significant mods. All I've done so far is "de-bling it" by removing the offending gold emblems! The last shot is from the day I took delivery of it, parked next to my old rig.

I need to order tires this week so I can get rid of these "bling" chromies...gag!

Here's a couple of poor shots of the backspacing measurement for both wheels. Interestingly, the steel wheels have a DOT number stamped on them (?), you can see it right to the right of the measuring tape. The last shot shows a closeup fo the wheel on my workbench.

Here are some pics of the wheels. The comparison is with an OEM alloy 16" wheel. As you can see, the dimensions are the same. I like how the hole for the valve stem is tucked in behind the flange.
