A Texas vehicle modification shop run by John Hennesssee is going to stuff the Hellcat supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 motor into 24 Gladiators, add some other appropriate mods, and promises that the result will be a 1000 HP rip snorter producing 933 lb-ft of torque. This $225k beast will be called the Maximus. Plans are for it to be first shown off this year”s SEMA.

The porn vid of the Maximus is here:

Porn? That's an afterschool special.

All that power, and that's the best they could put in the video? You'd think it'd at least feature it winning a drag race against something sporty, tear assing through some dirt to create its own tornado, and a few heroic dune jumps. Paging Dr. Block ...

About time..The V6 is a cute motor but pretty weak off road..it's low end torque is non existent..
Yeah, you’re so right......according to a recent Motor Trend test drive comparing the Gladiator to the new Ranger, the disappointed reviewer stated:

The Gladiator's engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 making 285 hp and 260 lb-ft, here connected to—believe it or not—a six-speed manual transmission. Don't get excited, though; this drivetrain is hardly an enthusiast's dream. The engine is gutless low in the rev range; you have to take it to 4,000 rpm to get any meaningful twist. That's made worse by the long and widely spaced gears. "First goes through 30 mph, second through 60, and third through around 100," Seabaugh said, continuing, "For a truck that's supposed to work and off-road, that's insane—I'd halve those ratios."

I drove a friends and it has zero low end..sand, mud or just creeping isn't possible.. kicking it up to 4000 rpm begging for disaster..

I don't even want to spend the crazy money for a regular Gladiator, let alone nearly a quarter million dollars for one of these.
It's crazy how expensive they are. Around here about 15 K more than a comparably equipped Ranger, Tacoma or Colorado. I'm curious to see how well the Gladiators are selling. Is the price holding a lot of people back?

Yeah but you have to add 15k in aftermarket on any of those to be as cool as the Gladiator.

Hopefully they doubled checked all the welds before slapping a 1k HP in this thing...

It was disappointing to see this Gladiator at SEMA - the hood was always closed.
What's the point in a 1000hp engine in a Jeep at SEMA if you can't see the engine ?!?!

That's Hennesssee. He says he has a 1000hp Gladiator, but what he means is he's planning to have a 1000hp gladiator some day.
It probably still had the 3.6 in it.

But the hood decal looked totally boss.

I'm curious about what the drivetrain will be. I doubt the stock parts will appreciate having that kind of power twisting them.

Why would you even want 1000hp in a jeep? Sounds like they have run out of unique ideas.
Because Moar Powah!

It's about promoting the Hennesssee brand, not the functionality of the vehicle. It's a hot new marque to jump on board, and 1000 is a big number. Jeep will never offer something so outrageous, but I'll bet something like an SRT8 version will be out before long, and those will sell in decent numbers.

That's really disappointing to hear about the drive-train in the stock configuration. It looked like it could give us in N.A. a similar set-up to the 79 series Toyotas overseas. As long as it proved reliable.
30 mph in first gear with a manual tranny is street car gear not an off-roader by any means. You would have to be on low range for anything considered off-roading...
There is (or was) a company here in Colorado that imported the 79 series but they looked too tight in the cab for someone my height.
A turbo diesel (for range) or a decent gas engine....(GM5.3????) and proper gearing could really make the Gladiator some appeal over just the looks.
