Donor #1 got home yesterday. Complications in logistics has landed me another 20hr round trip to retrieve donor #2...

I think it would be awesome to see a widened and stretched vanagon, you know vaguely stock, but stretched both ways to fit the Dodge chassis, guess you'd need
four stock ones for that....

I definitely considered this. The conclusion that I came to was that it would complicate the build and offer less space than a box, and as you said, would require more donor Vanagons. In the planned configuration, using the body of the donors as a crew cab made more sense to me. Also, I could turn the rear end of one donor van into a little trailer for my DD Vanagon!

Matthew,

My 93 W250 Sunrader project was a "little crazy" yours is way crazy, in a good way. Great score getting the free donors, I look forward to the build. Attached are some pictures from my project to give you encouragement.

Safe travels,

This is pure insanity! And I love it! I’m still kicking myself for selling my ‘94 Cummins 2500 4x4 5speed. The body was shot, but I had plans of doing a weird body swap too. Not as weird as this clearly...

The weekend is upon us! Hoping to let some sparks fly in the next couple of days. A little recap for those that don't want to watch my annoying videos.

Donor #1 is in the process of being stripped down. Very little is left of the interior, and most of the wiring has been pulled. I am still working to carefully remove the air conditioner from the body, since it is rare to find them in this kind of condition. Through the path of discovery, we have discovered this will be the body for the main part of the build. Donor #2 is extremely rusty and full of bondo.

A shot from the other side shows the body is down to nothing but a few interior bits, and the suspension.

The plan is to cut the body of Donor #1 just behind the rear sliding door. This will give us the base to the crew cab for our build.

A (poorly) manipulated photo of the front of the van shows the abomination in amazing technicolor. Just wait til its on a 4x4 Dodge Cummins frame...

Unfortunately, Donor #2 has plenty of flaws that keep it from being the beauty queen. From bondo, to rust, to random holes and everything in between, this thing has it all. I think the only good part of this van is the center section I need to cut out...

The main contributor in my decision to condemn Donor #2.

The amount of bondo in this body is staggering. Initially, I thought this was the better of the 2 bodies. I was very wrong...

Stay tuned for weekend madness!!
