Hiya fellas,

I'm never on this forum since I don't own a Mits but a friend of a friend is swinging through Albuquerque today with a 2016 Montero. They're returning home to MEX and picked up a Moby in UT I guess. Their rear end is sagging and I've offered to install the bags for them. Trouble is, Airlift site doesn't even list Mits on their drop down product catalog. Which bags are you folks running for your rear springs? Is it safe to assume that all Monteros have the same rear coil springs ID?

I have these bags on the back of my 4th Gen 4runner and '96 Landcruiser 80 series so I'm intimately familiar with them. I just want to make sure they bought the right bags for their application and if not, I'll ask them to order the correct ones. Not sure if we'll find one in this town on such a short notice.

Thanks for your assistance and my apologies if this topic has been covered in the past.

Holy ********, yeah, I think it's them! I had no idea what to expect but I can see why their rear end is sagging! Now I'm really looking forward to meeting them and wrenching on their junk!

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Got more info from him, looks like he is running this OME kit RB 2995 Old Man Emu Coils Springs 2995 and he ordered Airlift 1000 kit # 60763.

Time to close up this thread. Richard and Denise came over to the house and spent the night before heading south to Cloudcroft, NM. We enjoyed their company Fri night and my 12 yo daughter enjoyed talking to Denise.

I now understand why Firestone or AirLift do not spec a bag for the rear of this generation Montero. There's a bolt that sits directly above where any air bags would live so one has to build a "top hat" that takes into account this protrusion. This bolt is for the rear clip so it's kinda important and my guess is when this model when to the uni-body style this bolt was added. Other than that, installing bags is pretty simple. Hopefully the pics will help you visualize the process. The top hat is made of 3" exhaust pipe that I had laying around and a 1/8" plate.

The bags definitely brought up the overloaded rear end of this Montero and Richard liked the less bouncy feeling over the freeway expansion joints. I did wish that AirLift suggested a taller and larger diam bag for this application when Richard contacted them. I think the bag from the back of my 80 series Landcruiser would've been a better choice and maybe I should've removed mine and installed them into their rig, in hindsight.

Now that they have a Moby1, I advised Richard to move the RTT and hi-lift jack to the trailer. Empty out their 5gal jerry can in the back of Monty and move the spare to the vehicle rack near the front. I felt sorry for the high amount of weight that the unibody structure needed to carry back there and was concerned for metal fatigue. Their rear hitch receiver separated from the rear bumper due to the Moby1 tongue load somewhere near Aztec, NM so any weight they can shave from the rear of the vehicle can only help when it comes to longevity and better drive-ability.

It is interesting that OME 2995 are not Montero specific. Are they supposed to be even a heavier load rating than OME 2918 (heavy duty rear) springs?
