Hey every one I just purchased this ambulance from the pulp mill I work at for $401 in an auction. Its an 86 e350 dual 6.9l. It has 90xxxx km on it and the maint records show it hasn't rolled over yet. It does have 3000 hrs but the engine and transmission were replaced when they bought it and the odometer reading was 66xxx. It runs great but has a tiny bit of cancer in the fenders and back of van cab. the floors are all in great shape and so are the doors. Box is in decent shape everything is original nothing was removed. So far all I have done is chase the glow plug wires and get my parts ready to convert them to manual. They were using ether to start it for the last couple months because they couldn't find a short in the system and the guys really wanted a new ambulance. I'm not going to bother searching for the short they replaced all the glow plugs, relay and controller but they still wont work off the key And a button works just fine for me. The box drains the two isolated deep cycles in the box over a couple days. The engine and box have separate battery chargers hard wired that I will remove and mount one battery tender and the better of the two chargers with plugs so I can have them disconnected and also use them to charge my smaller batterys for my trolling motor. It had a 1000w inverter in it that says not working I'm going to see if I can get it repaired but for not it is replaced with a 1750w go power. I'm also using it as my hay wagon for my goats and was working on it at the time so it's a bit messy

My plan is to turn it into an rv / hunting rig. I'd eventually like to do the 4x4 conversion but with minimal lift. Does any one know how much these things can tow? It has a tow package on it.

Does it have a info tag inside the drivers door with the gross vehicle weight and the gross combined weight rating? (GCWR - GVW)

What condition is the transmission and trans cooler in?

Trans drives and shifts good under 20000 km on the new trans it and the engine were done by ford at the same time. The cooler looks to be in good shape but I was going to add an extra cooler and a temp guage as well.

I am also curious if any one knows what lights I have to remove or alter? The siren system is run from an isolator so they can be turned off, I live in b.c. canada

An ambulance has parasitic drains on the electrical system that will always be there unless you add a battery disconnect switch. The switch should be installed in the negative lead to the batteries.

Regarding lights - here in the US, you can usually have red/blue lights as long as you don't use them on public roads. You could replace the lenses with amber lenses (approximately $20-25 used/each), or just remove the bulbs and abandon the warning light system. At that point, users usually leave the colored lens in place to plug the hole, but paint the lens to match the body.

Some states also require an ex-ambulance to have all the "ambulance" lettering and insignia removed if it's sold by a car/truck dealer.

The safest answer to the light & insignia question is to contact your local police department. If they're happy, you'll be happy.

Also add green as a lens color you can’t use. It was recently approved for use only by jurisdictional road maintenance (snowplows) vehicles. So here in the US, when replacing the reds and blues, you’re pretty much stuck with white or amber.

FYI.

I really enjoy this site!
