AmbuLand build thread

Yes, hopefully the plan will work out! I believe I'd get a 34" wide by approx. 72" long opening.

Another good thing about it is that being just under 8' long it will leave some room to mount a small roof rack at either end of the roof. Good to store undesirable...

I'm also into the electrical cleanup part of my build, impressive how much wires can come out!

I've never posted about this
clever batteries tray before but here it is... 3 batteries sitting in a sliding tray. Very easy maintenance! ;)

Slowest built ever! Hahaha!

Does it look pretty easy to add a roof vent after you took the roof panel off? If you are going to add one do you know which one you would use?

Hi Ian

I'd be very easy and I don't think you'd need to remove the ceiling panel either. I'll be installing one later but that's a bit down the road... It will be a Fantastic one but not the fancy one.

Here's another part of the build I got a while back that I completely forgot to mention. A M1102 to pull behind the Ambo. That way I can bring all the veggie oil fuel with me on road trip and can fully designate the AmbuLand as a camper without worrying about having to use it as a work truck...

Best part aside from being light and strong is that it's almost the exact width as the Ambo! Those 37" tires might be a bit too much. That sand color though makes me want to paint the Ambo to match! :)

37s on the Ambo and it will all look proportional :). Keeping everything the same bolt pattern allows for more spare tire options.

I have been thinking of repainting mine the sand/desert colour as well. That trailer is perfect, I think you told me but I forgot, where did you pick it up?

It was local so I got lucky. For us Canadian willing to get one of those is a pita. They need to be 15yrs old for easy importation. Too bad cause some of the newer ones (2006-2009...) go for cheap, under $1000! That's crazy cheap for what you get... Aircraft aluminum body, chromoly frame and so much more! Tempting isn't it! ;)

Funny what a night without kids and wife can do... I jumped into the electrical project right after work and got way further than I thought.

Got a few nice surprises along the way! Never thought of taking a closer look at the wires... I took for granted that I was lucky the ambo came with a detailed schematic of all the electrical stuff. Then looking closer I realized that every single wire was accurately labeled for its specific function. That makes my life way easier! :)

Then I got going at it. My friend Jay came by as well and was even more eager than I was to clean up the mess! Thanks bro, that was a very productive night!

My goal was to clean as much of the electrical as possible ie. remove all that wasn't needed anymore, relocate all the switches from the dog house and the original electrical panel to the corner behind the driver's seat. Now the second door can be used for something else down the road... We succeeded!

Half way there:

Waiting to be relocated:

And voila! A new door :)

What's left right now is dealing with some of the aftermarket wiring getting mixed up with the OEM one. I'll post pictures showing parts of harness that I'm unsure if I can remove or not.

Finally, I don't know for sure but seems like another good surprise! Anyone can confirm if this tag means my tranny got some health boost done along the way? ;)

That's it for tonight, now I can start planning the interior.

Oh, Before I forget... Where is the OBD2 plug on these vans? I have a Scangauge2 looking for its mate ;)

Cheers

Transmission part number. It is a ford transmission from the year of your van but apart from that I cannot tell you anything else. But if you look at the price of that part from Ford it had better be a HD box. I think it is a 4R100 but will leave it to the experts to confirm.

If you breakdown partnumber 1C2Z7000DBRM
1 = 2001
C2 = Econoline
Z = Division
7000 = transmission
DBRM = buggered if I know.

Nice gut job. I am knee deep in re-wring mine as well. I am not going quite as crazy as you though. Looks like you guys had some fun!

Watching. Waiting. Watching. :)

Very interested in your plan to get all 4 of you in there. I've also got two kids, and they're rapidly approaching adult height. My current plan for whatever I end up with is to leave out the kitchen. We can cook outside.

Why not do like a VW Westfalia floor plan? That'd be the easiest way to have seating for 4 adults...

I have something else on mind and now that the floor is almost completely cleaned out (one more cabinet to remove) I should be able to see if my first idea will work or not. The VW style is my fall back option...
