Bombardier Iltis for sale $11,500 CAN. $8400 US

Tough, small, 4 seat military grade 4wd vehicle. Design criteria - transport four people, 500 kilos (about 1,100 pounds) and climb a 50° incline fully loaded. It had to be capable off-road but still be street-legal. It had to measure less than 4 meters (157 inches) long and 1.60 meters (63 inches) wide. Selectable 4wd with manual rear diff lock. Has no low range. Instead it has an extra low Gelande gear. 24v electrics. Engine is water cooled VW golf derived 1.7 4cyl. Top speed 130 kmh.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Iltis. Came 1st, 2nd and 4th in the 1980 Dakar.

My vehicle details:
Recently restored 1984 Iltis. I've owned it for around 9 years now. It has gasoline 1.7l low compression engine. Vehicle odometer showing around 20000 kms, engine swapped this year from Iltis showing around 8000kms. New batteries this year. Tires nearly new tread depth.

Surprised this did not spark some interest... Reason for sale - wanting to replace 2 vehicles for one.

I'm shocked as well. I have many hours driving those when I was in. Awesome vehicle for off and on road.

Iltis and Pinzgauer 6x6 on the trail together..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5b8jf4_ZSQ

footage tackling the same piece of trail at 00 and at 6:40. BTW not my Iltis in this video.

Both rely on their lockers.. obviously Pinz 6x6 will be able tackle some obstacles better than Iltis. But Iltis very capable and small to get in to places Pinz would not.

back seat - 2 individual with fold down backs and lap belts. It is a compact truck though. In the front it is pretty good space wise. The seat slides a fair way back. More leg room than a Land Rover Series truck for sure..

Parts - a lot of VW parts from 80s Rabbit/golf so clutch no problem, fuel filters, oil filters and engine related. Military 24v electronic ignition. You can adapt/convert to regular distributor cap and leads I believe if you want. Got what I needed so far..

I have a reasonable collection of parts that we could negotiate a price on. Spare gearbox/transaxle, rear diff, engine (likely needs rings) from a spare Iltis we had (scrapped)... 3 boxes of other bits....

I see there hasn't been a reply for this for a year exactly lol. Do you still have this Iltis or has it been sold?
