Bringing Sexy Back. AKA 93' LWB RRC

Another great advantage to this engine, the military used it, so parts are everywhere. Unlike land rover parts, which are hard to get almost anywhere I go in the states. Loose an alternator in Moab? You are basically screwed until they can get one in at OReilly's. Loose anything on this engine, they will probably have it in stock. Motor mounts are easy, any big block gas chevy engine uses the same motor mounts. Water pumps are about $50, alternators usually $100 with life-time warranty. Power-steering hooks right up to the stock lines. Very minimal wiring.

Con's weighs about 350 lbs more than a stock engine. But add some stiffer springs and shocks and who cares, I can't even tell a difference in handling. I have plenty of stock RRCs around that drive, and I can't feel any difference.

If you decided to use a 700R4 parts are super cheap for a rebuild and almost any place in the USA can rebuild the transmission. I also used an NP241, found in dodge trucks everywhere. Bolts right up to the 700R4 as well. No adapters needed, just some new driveshafts with stronger u-joints than the little ones used in land rover driveshafts, and 1310 u-joints can be bought anywhere.

After hours and hours of cleaning and resealing this thing. Fixing the smashed oil pan. It's almost ready to go in. Just need to replace the rear main seal. #rangeroverclassic

Turbo is installed. Heat wrap is installed. First time doing it. Luckily no one will really see it. Test fit coming soon.

Rebuilt the injection pump. Not as hard as I thought. A bit un-nerving. But it's all back together and ready to be installed.

Well got a lot hooked up yesterday. Mostly electrical. So not a lot to show. Injection pump is wired, cold start advance, glow plugs done starter wired (just need to hook the battery wire up. Still need to rewire the alternator and move the winch wires to the other battery. I've got to much crap hooked to one battery.

Also hooked up the fuel lines. But I'm going to relocate the fuel filter. And add a second filter with a fuel water separator.

Bought two gallons of oil and an oil filter.

I bought a hummer water proof oil dipstick and tube. The tube showed up. Just waiting on the dipstick. Once I get that I'll be almost done.

Radiator is installed. Transmission cooler lines hooked up. Need to rework the lower radiator hose a little. Upper hose is installed.

I need to build a little bracket for my alternator because it's a cs144 (140 amp) alternator. And my alternator won't fit in the stock position.

Then bolt up the transmission. I might try to get a hummer water proof dipstick as well. Since all the breather lines for the transmission and transfercase are run to the snorkle.

Pictures showing some of the tight clearance and stuff that is finished.

Fired it up today. Wow, its a lot quieter than the old engine. Video coming soon. Need to adjust the idle, its way to high. Doesn't smoke, just needs to given 10 seconds of glow plugs. The old engine needed starting fluid almost all the time. But I think the rebuilt injection pump really helps it.

The list is getting smaller. The oil cooler and power steering cooler are now done and mounted.

I purchased a four core aluminum radiator. That should be here in a week.

Updated photos.

New 4 core aluminum radiator is now installed. mounts. Had to redo some sheet metal. But not too bad of a fit for a much larger radiator than stock.

Radiator support and wiring is all done.

Next up air intake, using a Donaldson air filter assembly. Running out of room pretty quickly under the hood. I'm going to have to do some trickery here.
