Corkscrew Gulch, San Juan Mountains, Colorado

Corkscrew Gulch is not as well known as the other famous San Juan Passes (Imogene, Engineer, Cinnamon, Black Bear), but it really should be considered along with those greats. The trail traverses the Red Mountain Mining District, just a mountain range south of Engineer Pass and connects Ouray/Ironton with Silverton with access to the Alpine Loop near Animas Forks.

The trail is pretty easy, although there is also access to Poughkeepsie Gulch, which is a lot more technical if you want a bit more rock crawling on your trip (I had a stock L322 Range Rover so we bypassed Poughkeepsie).

The area is known for its wildflower blooms, but we were too late in the summer to enjoy them. There is still many mine ruins in the area and the vistas are simply breathtaking.

Below is my video review and I'll try to upload some stills when I get on my other computer.

This is definitely a trail one should consider on their bucket list when visiting the San Juan area.
