E350 steering box

I ended up selling my 1st ambo so can't say if it ever changed but I doubt it. On my new one (2008 with 6.0) it's night and day. I can easily turn it when not moving, and my tires are even larger on this one!

reading through this leads me to believe that your pump wasn’t putting out enough pressure. You could change the box 5 times, but if the pump pressure isn’t enough, it’ll make little to no difference. That said if the box is shot, extra pressure may not help.

I’ll conclude by saying that I’m not an expert… just been reading up on power steering as I’m doing my conversion in an Fj40. I’ve played with my Saginaw pump and seen how with components to increase flow & pressure, the steering went from two arms (and I’m 6’4” & 285 lbs) to steering with the palm of my hand while not moving.

Pressure is what makes it move.
