1985 Mercedes-Benz Gelaendewagen SWB 280GE for sale
VIn: 46023217032528 M110.994 Engine 711.101 Manual Transmission
Odometer: 26733 Miles (shown, but might be accurate!)
Priced at $17,500.00
The current owner purchased this 280GE about five years ago from Copley Motor Cars in Boston. They had taken it in on trade from a family in the Hamptons near New York City. The truck was not in good shape. Sadly, the previous owner had neglected it. He had purchased it from Europa. The DOT certification sticker is in the glove box. The odometer has 26733 miles on it. This is not certifiable because of the age of the vehicle, but there isn’t any reason to think it isn’t accurate
The truck was delivered to Copley Motors without a fuel cap and the fuel tank was full of water. The fuel tanks were removed and all three pieces were boiled out and the interiors recoated. There was a small hole from corrosion on the top of the main tank near the sending unit. It was patched. The top end of the M110 engine was rebuilt by Mark Bertelsen at Star Class Motors in 2007/08. The clutch was replaces a few month ago together with the front brake calipers and so the all the hydraulic lines to the front and rear lockers. The four speed transmission has not been worked at. The syncros – if there ever were any – may be out in reverse. The car has been garage kept ever since the current owner purchased it

The body work was completed by CRU in Omaha. CRU specializes in rebuilding classics and hotrods. Many of the body parts are new. They were purchased from Steve at EuroTruck Importers. You may notice that there is a coating on the fender flairs and bumpers. The fender flairs were in poor condition. They are very expensive and difficult to get. They were repaired with fiberglass and then coated with LineX. The bumpers were coated to match. In addition to being a tough coating, LineX is also a rust inhibitor. The body work is good. There are several trouble spots where the paint cracked over time. It has been a couple of years since the paint job – so the cracking is likely over with continued proper paint care. There is still rust forming in spots along the body mounts. Pictures detail the current condition of these. Rust Warning: The Car was rusty before. It will be rusty again without proper care. The underside of the body has been treated with WaxOyl’d.

The Coco Mats are new. . All three seats are heated with aftermarket seat heaters. The exhaust is new.
The car drive wonderfully and is a great daily driver. It is a Mercedes 280 engine, and that’s about all there is to say about that. The AM/FM CD player is loud enough that it can be heard at highway speeds. The AC works as it was designed to. The wheels are the 18” MB Ashterot wheels from a 2002+ G500 with 265/65 R18 BF Goodrich AT tires in almost new . This car is a real daily driver. It is not a concourse piece or even a collector's item. It was restored to be used, and it is in great usable condition.

This fine Mercedes G-wagen is located in Omaha , Nebraska.
