Stoked to follow this build!! It must be hard watching this thing come together and being all the way across the country!! :)

Can I ask, why you ended up choosing the Fuso? What other options where you considering?

Thanks!!

I'm curious how the extruded aluminum comes into play in the cabin. Is it the framework for your cabinets? What are the dimensions of it? I'm used to working with the 80 mm pieces that make up my CNC machine but that's way too heavy for this application.

No worries you can purchase the book from here https://www.selfbuildmotorhome.com, you also have the option of getting some downloadable layout tools ;o) It takes a while to come as the book ships from Europe but well worth the wait.

I picked up my copy from amazon (early august) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/3981855310/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

did you get the layout templates & acknowledgement email to join their forum? mine (both) never were acknowledged even though I have a secret code an' everything (3 tries - I gave up)
.
thanks

my recollection is the author eschews any exposed metal for its potential condensation accumulation, but I could be getting my books crossed since I ordered & am reading this simultaneously : https://www.amazon.com/Overland-Cam..._rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=GWA6T37Z34YCGQYW9BK1

Ya we are looking at this for the framing of the raised bed and cabinet/dinette, the extrusion i have is very lightweight and the idea came from a similar system that Gouse gear uses for their system builds.

Things are getting real with the expedition vehicle build. The habitat plans with Total Composites are finalised and approved for production! Next step is the subframe and passthrough design along with the rear recovery bumper ;o)Windows, doors and roof hatch also on order from the guys over at https://www.ternoverland.com ready for the build out in BC.

It is indeed but probably just as well as i would be in the shop every day wanting to get involved and see how it is progressing lol! We went for Fuso as i love the short form factor of the truck, originally we were looking to convert an ambulance etc but by the time i looked into a 4x4 conversion, lift, wheels, tires, body strip and insulation there was not allot in it in terms of cost to go the Fuso route. I also looked at the F350 platform amongst others. Another reason for the Fuso route is that long terms we are looking to travel Europe and getting parts are no issues compared to a US vehicle. One thing I love about the Fuso is I can just pull into a standard parking spot!! We use to travel with a 28ft Aistream and 4x4 Truck and found we wanted to go further, more remote so decided to build the Expo Vehicle ;o)

Thanks for posting some of the schematics. I'm assuming the 60 x 60 extrusions in the rear panel are for mounting racks/accessories. Looking forward to seeing the construction of the subframe and isolation pads for the cabin.

You got it, that gives me some structure for Max Trax, high lift, jack, shovel etc etc on the rear ;o) For sure i will share the subframe design once completed.
