+1 on the Africa statement. Owning a Japanese bike, KLR, XR, DR would be a much wiser choice for extreme travel. Plainly said they are one hell of a lot more reliable than a BMW or KTM990 and they can run on any grade fuel. You can fix them anywhere. I have beaten, all to hell, my XR650L for 14 years now and it has never let me down. The KTM990 has never failed me, but I have to say it has taken 100 times more wrenching to keep it reliable, not to mention the cost of ownership is through the roof, but man what a ride.If he hurt your feelings, better not venture over to AdvRider. They can be pretty rough on the KLR. My favorite was accusing a guy of being pulled over by the police for "Attempted Speeding". :wings:

But seriously, it's pretty obvious the 990 is a "better" bike and that really shouldn't be shocking to anybody. Actually, let me correct that. If I was actually going to drive across Africa or around the world, I'd take the KLR.
